Emma’s P.O.V.
It had been nearly 10 minutes and I was getting restless. With my free hand, I swung the door open and my heart stopped. I couldn’t breath and felt like my chest shattered. Eric was kissing his ex. He told me about her, how she cheated on him and wanted nothing to do with her. But there he was, kissing her.
“Eric?” I gasped loudly, tears welling in my eyes. He whipped around and when he saw me, his jaw hung up.
“Emma! This isn’t what it looks like-“ he started, but it was too late. I dropped my books and bag and started running. I heard his call after me, but I ignored him. I swiftly got on my bike and started peddling furiously. My vision was blurred with tears and I was trembling. He didn’t love me anymore, plain and simple. He would rather have a perfect Barbie then a broken girl. And at that very moment, I realized I had nothing to live for. I mean, my parents were dead, my grandparents were on the edge, I had no friends and now Eric didn’t love me anymore. After a while of biking, I saw the place where Eric and I had a picnic. I pulled into the clearing and clambered off my bike. I couldn’t deal with the pain anymore. I ran over to the stream and I quickly peeled off the sweater that Eric had given to me. I threw it on the ground and remembered when I almost fell in the icy water. Eric was there to catch me, but this time things would be different.
Eric’s P.O.V.
When I saw her speed off, I pushed Kloe away from me and ran after her. I saw her speedily get on her bike and ride off. I could never catch up to her! She was an incredibly fast biker because of her strong legs. I know it’s unfair, but I ran into my car and dug the key out of my pocket. I shoved them into the ignition and hit the gas. I drove in the direction she went and I couldn’t see her anywhere. After driving for probably a minute, I saw something out of the corner of my eye. Her bike! I slammed on the breaks and turned into where I saw it. It was where we had our picnic. I jumped out the car and was horrified to see it abandoned and the sweater of mine I had given her at the waters edge. I ran to the edge of the stream and my heart stopped. I saw her body floating limply with the current. I was panicking. She was in an 8-foot stream and didn’t know how to swim! I furiously took my sweater off and dove into the freezing water. Pins and needles struck my skin, but that was the least of my worries. With all my strength, I swam as fast as I could towards her and finally reached her. I grabbed her by the torso and towed her out of the water. I carried her to a patch of grass and laid her down. I saw her lifeless body and felt like dying. I couldn’t let her go. I started doing CPR. I vigorously did chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth. I did this probably for 5 minutes but she wasn’t responding.
“Emma, please, just breathe! Breathe Emma breathe! Breathe damn it!” I was urging as I did compressions.
Suddenly her body jerked and she started coughing out water. She was breathing. Relief spread out over my body and I felt like I could think. I didn’t realize that she was hurt and was shocked to see a huge gash on her forehead. She also had cuts and bruises everywhere. I waited for her eyes to open, but they didn’t. She was still unconscious. As long as she was breathing, I was ok. I carefully picked her up and put her in the passenger seat of my car. I put the seatbelt on her and noticed her breathing was getting shallow. I ran to my side and jumped into my seat. I drove to my house as fast as I could, not caring about the speed limit. I kept on glancing at her to make sure that she was still breathing. When we finally got to my house, I leapt out of the car, unbuckled her and carried her to my house. I gently set her on a sofa and scrambled around the house to find a first aid kit.
