Prologue 2

Lelani's POV: One year afterwards (age twelve)

       Nemo and I have been traveling for a long time. I miss my home. I wish I didn't need his help. But I do. So far we have killed eight vampires during this journey. We stumbled upon two vampires in Inkburg, Georgia that know a coven that can help me. We told them our names were Kira and Sam. Their names are Charlotte and Peter. Nemo didn't like them. But my instincts told me to trust them. Since I can borrow peoples' gifts I decided to show them my skills. I focused on Charlotte. Instantly I felt all of her vampire powers flow through my human veins. I smiled at Peter, knowing she can out run him. "Wanna race?" I giggled. He looked sceptical at first but he agreed to run with me.

         We ran until we got to the city line in Atlanta. Neither one of us were out of breath. Peter seemed to be amazed at my skills. We ran back. I was in front of him the whole time. When we reached the forest, Charlotte was yelling at Nemo. Nemo was the first to notice we arrived. He ran up to me. Peter walked up to Charlotte. At the moment Nemo touched me, his werewolf powers surged into me. "You are very talented, human." Peter stated matter-of-factly. I took a step away from Nemo to nod. Charlotte grinned at me.

"So Sam told me that was your first time borrowing a vampire's powers. How did it feel?" Charlotte sounded really excited.

"She was terrific, Char. I'm surprised we didn't run past the border." Peter replied, laughing. My stomach growled. Nemo and I have been eating like wolves for three weeks. We were given money but not enough to sustain our basic need for the long journey on paws or foot.

         Charlotte looked at me. She held out her hand. Nemo put his arm in front of me. I looked at him, nervously. He was holding back a snarl. "It's okay" I said simply. I put my hand in Charlotte's. We hissed simultaneously. Peter shook his head.

"Let's go inside." Peter said as he took Charlotte's other hand. I could feel their powers sinking into me. It hurt slightly. I closed my eyes.

         We walked into there little cabin. It was in the middle of the forest. There was no driveway. It was absolutely beautiful though. Simple yet beautiful which is how I like to live. We went inside to see a young girl around 7 or 8 eating pizza. I skipped over to her as Charlotte let go of my hand. Nemo kept close behind me like a bodyguard.

        I found out that the girl's name is Tallulah. Charlotte and Peter are babysitting her for the day. How convenient. She told me to just call her Tally. She has bleach blond hair and green eyes. She was wearing a lime green t-shirt and a jean skirt with black sandals. "Hi there, would you like some pizza. Mrs. Charlotte made it for me while you and Mr. Peter were playing outside. I helped her make it. What's your name?" Wow Tally talks a lot. I took a paper plate and two slices of pizza. I walked up to Nemo and handed him a slice. He shook his head.

"Eat it, N... Sam. There isn't a animal miles from this place. I promise you there is no poison in it." I growled at him. He needs to trust me. If he is going to act like a stuck up spoiled princess then he should go back home. He glared at me.

        Then he grabbed me by the waist. "You have a lot of nerve, kid." He whispered. His hand was burning against the skin of my back. I picked up a slice and took a bite out of it. I smirked at him. He smirked back at me. He took a bite out of my slice.

        Laughter from everyone else broke us apart. Nemo took his slice from the plate. After that he went outside. After I finished the pizza, Charlotte looked at me up and down. She shook her head. "How long have you been wearing that?" She asked me skeptically. I blushed, embarrassed at my dirt stained shirt and grass stained jeans.
