Two weeks later.

Matthew: see you guys soon

Me: okay!

I set my phone aside and walk into the living room where the kids are seated. "Kids you need to go get dressed, we are going out to dinner at my friends house." Ana gets up from the couch and twirls, "Well I'm wearing my princess pajamas." I narrow my eyebrows then laugh, "Ana you are not wearing pajamas to meet my friend." She purses her lips together, "But I want to, and if you won't let me I'll just wear my princess dress." I roll my eyes, "Fine wear your dress but you better be on your best behavior." She nods and they both go into their room.

"Mom I'm taking the kids out tonight!" She appears from her room in a purple button down and black pants, "Okay! I'm heading to Friendly's for my shift, I'll be back around 10." I smile and nod. "I'm really happy you got this job mom, it's really going well now." She smiles, "I agree, after two weeks I'm pulling myself together and everything's finally coming back into place." I smile as she heads towards the door, "I'll see you later!" "Bye Hun. BYE KIDS I'LL SEE YOU IN THE MORNING!" They both yell goodbye from the other room and then she leaves.

"Kids, c'mon! I don't want to be late." Jonah and Ana exit the bedroom. Jonah is wearing khakis along with a baby blue button down. I look to Ana and she is dressed in her tinker bell costume. "Well don't you two look cute!" They both smile, "You look pretty too sissy." I smile, "Thank you Ana." I look down at my outfit. I'm wearing a pair of American Eagle jeans with a navy sweater that I had gotten with Jordan two weeks ago along with a beat up pair of moccasins.

I walk towards the door and grab my keys on the way out, "Let's go kids." They follow me out to the car and load into the back. I help Ana buckle then sit into the drivers seat and start the ignition. A few minutes into the drive Jonah speaks up, "Who's house are we going to?" I look at him through the mirror, "His names Matt, he's a friend from school." He smirks a little, "Is he your boyfriend?" I laugh, "No, just a friend."

I pull into the driveway and put the car in park. "Ready?" They both nod and I unlock the doors and help Ana from her car seat. As we walk towards the door Jonah stops, "What if he was something about my hair?" I look back at him and smile softly, "He won't, I promise." He nods and we walk to the door. Ana reaches her arm up and knocks. The three of us wait quietly as I hear foot steps from behind the door. The door opens and Matt is standing there dressed in khakis and a blue button down. His eyes settle on Jonah and he smiles, "Hey little dude, don't we look a lot alike." Jonah smiles wide, "Hi Matt. Meet Jonah and Ana, kids introduce yourselves to Matt." Ana slithers past Matt then looks back at him, "I'm Tinker Bell." I grab Jonah's hand and lead him inside. Jonah extends his hand and Matthew accepts, "I'm Jonah, Drew's younger brother." Matt smiles, "Nice to meet you, you two can head into the kitchen!" They both smile and take off.

I look to Matt and smile softly. "Thank you for inviting us." He shrugs, "Anytime. Ana is adorable and Jonah is one hell of a man." I smile, "Thank you, I guess I've done well raising them." Matt nods, "Most definitely, how's your mom doing? I remember you telling me that she wasn't doing too hot." I bite my lip and smile, "She's a lot better. She managed to get a job in the past two weeks and recuperate from her break-up." He nods, "I'm proud of her, and you. I can't believe how well you did raising two kids while raising yourself." I feel my cheeks get hot so I turn my head to the side to try and cover it up, "We should probably head into the kitchen." He nods and I turn to leave but he takes my arm and spins me towards him. I look up into his eyes as he leans in and connects his lips to mine. I smile between the kiss then pull away.

"What are we having for dinner?" Ana looks to me and smiles big. I look to Matt who is scooping spaghetti onto plates, "Spaghetti." Both of their faces light up with excitement, "Yay." I walk over to Matt, "Well you chose the perfect meal, want help?" He looks to me, "Nope. And don't think I chose this meal because it was easy, I actually made the sauce myself." My mouth dropped slightly open, "No way! Do you like to cook a lot?" He finishes setting up the plates then looks to me, "Since my moms job has her traveling a lot I had to learn to make food for myself, eventually I learned to like it." I smile, "That's really cool. When do I get to meet this flight attendtent mom of yours?" "Whenever I get to meet yours." I purse my lips then smile as I grab Ana and Jonah's plates. "For you Tink, and for you my little man."

I sit beside Matt on the opposite side of the table and begin to t eat. After a few minutes of silent eating Jonah speaks up, "School was good today. I played with Kyle on the playground and then Carissa asked me if I wanted to jump-rope with her." I set my fork down and look to him, "Really? How did that go? I remember you telling me that you had a little crush on Carissa." Jonah's cheeks turn bright red, "It was fun, after that we raced to the playground from the blacktop - I won." I smiled, "Atta boy, was she close behind? And did you have your inhaler on you mister? You know my rules, you can't be too active during reccess." Jonah nods, "I had it, and then Mrs. Adam's made me take it when we went inside." "Good, I'm happy she looked out for you."

After dinner I walk Jonah and Ana into the living room where I turn on disney channel. "Behave, I'm going to help Matt clean up." I go back into the kitchen where Matt is starting to load the dish washer. "Let me help." I reach for the plates and rinse them before putting them neatly into the dish washer. After we finish our quiet session of cleaning the kitchen Matt leans back against the counter and looks to me. "Why didn't you ever tell me about Jonah and your mom before now?" I bring my gaze to his eyes, "I don't open up to people, remember. And I also don't like telling people about Jonah's condition because I don't like receiving pity from people." He nods then walks over to me, placing his hands on either side of my on the counter. "You are an incredible girl Drew. You are so special and beatiful and kind and gentle. I will always be here for you, and no this isn't pity - it's me actually being a gentleman for once." I smile, "Kiss me." He cups his hands around my small framed face and presses his lips to mine. When our lips part I watch his eyes flutter open. "I hope we can do this again, Drew." I nod, "Me too, but I should probably get them home, it's getting late."

"Jonah, Ana, lets head home, okay?" They both get up from the couch and walk towards me. "Please don't forget your manners." Jonah reaches his hand out to Matt, "Thank you sir for a lovely dinner." A giant smile spreads across Matt's face as he pulls Jonah in for a hug. When they let go Ana walks before him and bows, "I, Tinker Bell the tinker fairy, loved your dinner." Matt bows as well, "Why thank you Ms. Bell, I hope you serve you again." I smile at the two of them, "Okay kids, the doors unlocked. Go get in the car, Jonah please help Ana buckle in her seat belt." They both take off down Matt's hallway and out the front door. I shake my head and laugh, "Thank you Matt, they really enjoyed meeting you." He smiles, "Anytime, I had a lot of fun." I get up on the tips of my toes and kiss Matt's cheek. He frowns and connects his lips with mine. I kiss back and he puts his hands on the small of my back, pressing our bodies closer. My hands go up to his hair as his tongue slides across my bottom lip, begging for enterance. I accept. After a few minutes a scream comes from outside. I pull away from Matt and take off running down the hallway.

I run outside and see Ana hovered over Jonah's body. I run to him and hold him close to me as his body shakes violently, "MATT! CALL 911!" Matt runs into the house for the phone and I stay with Jonah. I look down and a tear slides down my cheek, "Shh, it's okay buddy." I look to Ana, "Sweetie what happened." She continues to cry but then stops, "W-we ran outside and started to play tag, he started to cough and I asked if he needed his inhaler, he said no. So we continued playing and then he fell down and started shaking." I nod and pull her close to me, "It's okay Ana." I look down at Jonah's body that has now stopped shaking. My heart races fast as I look down at him, "Jonah!?" I press my finger to his neck to feel for a pulse, there is nothing.
