"K-Kaname...?" Emi stuttered in a soft whisper, her heart skipping a beat.
"Emi..." With the sound of her name leaving his lips made her feel heavy inside.
"Forgive me, Emi, I wasn't paying attention. Are you alright?" His deep gentle voice asked with concern as he took a step closer to her. She felt herself tense up slightly as she brought her gloved hands down from her face and gripped the side of her dress slightly.
"I am! I wasn't paying attention either so please don't worry, Lord Kaname." She put on a smile and laughed awkwardly.
She noticed his face looked calm yet his eyes spoke differently. He gave a small chuckle. " I didn't expect to see you here. I'm glad you were able to come tonight. I know Soriees isn't something you're fond of."
"Yes, but... I-I wanted to give you and Lady Yuki my support..." Emi whispered the last part as she broke the gaze they held after so long. She couldn't see, but she felt his stare remain on her small form. "Where is she by the way? I would love to say hello!" She asked with a cheerful look on her face, trying to shrug off her thoughts and a certain emotion.
'That's right... That's the whole reason I'm here!'
"I'm afraid she is meeting with someone right now. I can arrange a meeting later tonight if you wish."
"A-Ah no that's alright! Just please send her my regards..." She chuckled softly.
'We're so formal now...' A sudden thought erupted in her racing mind as she began to feel the awkwardness inside her raise.
There was a short silence between them before he spoke up once again.
"Thank you, Emi. I will... You look very beautiful tonight." She heard his soft voice whisper the last part as her hazel eyes shot back up to his kind dark red orbs, her face growing warm while debating whether she heard his words right.
'You're so cruel... You know that?'
"Thank you... Though Its just I actually put effort into trying to look good for once." She brushed strands of her dark hair behind her ear as she looked around the hall that still remained empty, with just the two of them.
"Even still without the formal attire, you're beautiful regardless." His soft voice sounded genuine as She felt him move a bit closer and her heart sped as her words caught in her throat at his unexpected comment. She gripped her dress again and kept her gaze set on him, trying to seem unfazed by his words and smiled.
"Thank you... But honestly Lord Kaname," She started. " You shouldn't just go around telling other women that."
"I'm offended you think I'm such a man." He chuckled. Before she could reply, a certain smell reached her, causing her to tense up.
"This scent..." She whispered as she looked around, a worried expression began to show on her face. "I smell blood."
Kaname remained silent, the scent also capturing his attention. He gently placed his hand on Emi's bare shoulder. "Don't worry. I'm sure it's nothing to get worked up over. Why don't you Go find your father, I'm sure he's worried." He reassured with a calm smile. Emi's tension went away slowly as her nerves calmed as well.
"A-Are you sure?"
"Trust me." He kept on his smile as he gently squeezed her shoulder, urging her to go.
"Yes, I guess you're right... I should go find him." She spoke up quietly trying to brush away the strong scent of blood that seemed to infest the quiet halls. He smiled once more before removing his hand, her heels echoed as she walks past him. Before she could make her way back to the ballroom, she turned around and gave him a warm smile. "It was nice seeing you again. Have a good night, Kaname."
