[Chapter 13]

Kaname leaned against the window as he watched the streams of lava slowly make its way down the large mountain that sat in the distance from the Kuran mansion. After Akatsuki and Seiren left the room, the silence made his mind wander again as he stood alone in the darkness. Soon this place will most likely be engulfed in flames... He took in his surroundings of the place he once laid resting beneath for 10,000 years, the place he shared with the kind parents who raised him and the home he came back to with Yuki only a year ago. He couldn't help but feel the mournful emotion nagging at the back of his mind. He couldn't turn back, no matter how much he wished for it. 

He began to recall the night he appeared before Yuki, taking Lord Aido's life in front of her and Hanabusa. But what tugged at his heart the most was... Emi. The one person he didn't expect to be there to see his 'vile' actions... The sight of her shocked expressions haunted his mind and dreams. Even though he didn't actually take the life of the Aristocrat Lord, to her, it was very real and that's how it was supposed to be.

A soft sigh escaped his lips while he ran his hand through his dark brown hair as the feeling of guilt and regret loomed over him. But in these mixtures of feelings, he still yearned to see her once more, even if she comes to hate him for what he had done or for the things he was going to do soon. As he began to pull his hand away from his hair, he found that his fingertips hovered over his lips for a moment. He felt as if he had no right to think such thoughts...

"It's too late to turn back now..." Kaname spoke his thoughts out loud as he walked away from the window and exited the darkroom, ignoring the thirst he began to feel grow stronger once more.

Night had already fallen when Yuki, Emi, and Maria had returned to the Academy after a long evening of searching for the vampire that was causing trouble in the nearby town. When Emi rejoined after helping to search, Maria had explained that after Yuki capture him, Zero showed up and gunned him down, causing a small argument between the two. Yuki remained quiet until they returned to the campus grounds, where she parted ways with the two to go speak to the Headmaster while Emi and Maria continued their way through the quiet walkway that leads to the Moon Dormitory.

"You can sense it too, right?" Maria suddenly whispered, her tone soft from worry. Emi glanced at her tense form as their steps dragged on. Emi could sense it too. It was the presence of another Pureblood nearby which explained her sudden shift in mood.

"...Yeah. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about so don't stress too much, okay? We have the hunters and Yuki here if anything were to happen." Emi smiled in hopes to soothe the young vampire's worry. 

"I know... but still, Lord Kaname is still out there so I can't help but feel a bit on edge." Emi bit her lip slightly, ignoring the invisible heavy feeling the weighed over her. The two girls both came to a stop as Maria gave Emi an apologetic look.

"I'm sorry for bringing that up... I know you two were close and- I'm rather weak so it terrifies me that I might not be able to protect my self..."

"It'll be okay, so don't stress too much about it." Emi gave a confident, yet reassuring smile. "Not many know, but I can wield an anti-vampire weapon, just like my brother did so I can fight if I need too."

Maria's pale lavender eyes grew wide with shock and curiosity. "You can hold a hunter's weapon...?!"

"Y-Yeah..." I pulled out the dagger from inside my coat as proof.

"How..."

 "I'm not too sure... I came up with a theory and again, not many know but, my grandfather on my mother's side was human, so maybe it has something to do with that?" Emi questioned in response while deep in thought. It was a theory she came up with a while ago that also help ease the millions of questions on why she and her brother could hold such weapons.
