the fair

2  pm

I glanced down at my watch, and sighed. Seeing time pass by so slowly made me even more irritated. I finished scooping out my side, when I looked over to see Jimin's pile un-touched.

"How hard is it to move ice cream from one bucket to another?" I yelled, waking him up from his dream.

"Shit." He put his hand over his heart. "That's not how you wake someone up."

"You aren't supposed to be sleeping on the job..." I informed him as I slid a spoon next to him. Jimin silently picked it up, actually doing his job.

"You know the fair's open for Halloween, right?"

"Yeah." I muttered, wiping down the counter. That was one of the only days I actually didn't have to work. The fair, which is where we both work, always does this special spook night for Halloween. I've never bothered going, because it's just a bunch of drunk kids trying to get their adrenaline going.

"So, I was thinking." He started to say. "You and I could go on our day off."

I threw the rag onto the counter while laughing. "You're asking me to go?"

"Mhm." He slowly nodded, not sure why I was laughing so hard.

"You'd spend the only weekend you have off, with me?" I asked, crossing my arms.

"It'll be fun." He encouraged, pinching my waist .

"First off, don't ever do that again." I warned. "Second, if you're gonna try to pull a sick prank on me again, I'll pepper spray you till you're blind."

He lifted his hands. "Jesus, I'm not a psycho path."

I raised my eyebrows, causing him to scoff. "What?"

"Nothing." I smiled as I walked towards the front. I ripped my name tag off my shirt, along with my hat. "I'll see you later Amanda."

"Is it time to go already?" She looked down at her watch.

"Yeah, I wish I was here longer." I sarcastically smiled.

"Don't insult me, just leave." She joked, taking care of the next customer.

"See ya Jimin."

"See ya." He casually responded from the back room, as he was also getting ready to leave.

I walked through the noisy people, finding my way to the parking lot. I tried to remember whether or not I made a deal with my mom to pick me up.

"There has to be a payphone here somewhere." I mumbled to myself, looking around the help desk. They really need to invent more of those in the future.
