Last night was insane—I don't even remember getting home, but here I was wrapped in my comfy blanket. I was at the stage of sleep where I was aware of my surroundings, but too lazy to actually get up.
"Aurelia Alanis!"
My mother usually calls me by my full name when she's looking for something or ready to yell at me. I yawned while getting out of my warm bed, feeling cold as the blanket slipped off my shoulders.
"What!—I mean yes?" I shouted, loud enough for her to reply.
Silence.
See, what's the point in parents calling your name, when they aren't even going to answer back. It's just their way of saying come down stairs, you're in trouble. I rolled my eyes, walking down the stairs to see what the fuss was all about.
"You know, I would've liked to sleep in a little longer." I stretched my arms while sitting on the shiny silver stool.
"I'd really appreciate if you'd help me with the food." She wiped the sweat from her forehead.
"Food for what?" I snuck one of the muffins in my hand.
"Thanksgiving dinner, what else?" She raised her brow.
I widened my eyes, slamming my hand on the counter. "Today's Thanksgivings?"
"Come on Rae, get yourself together."
"I completely forgot." I sighed, pursing my lips as I thought to myself. "Who's coming over anyways?"
"No one." My mother bluntly responded.
"Huh—?" I narrowed my eyes. "But you said—
"We're attending the community Thanksgiving this year." She explained, mixing dough in a small bowl.
"Community Thanksgiving?" I groaned. "Mom, I hate those."
"That's too bad." She shrugged her shoulders. "All our relatives are busy, so we might as well make use of tonight."
"I literally always have no one to talk to there." I crossed my arms. "It's all parents and kids, like no teenager has a community Thanksgiving."
"Invite Brooke." She offered, adding salt to the casserole.
"Brooke invited Hoseok to have Thanksgiving dinner with her family." I glared at the floor.
