RAE'S HOUSE
"Morning." I yawned as I walked by my parents.
"Good morning sweetheart." My father kissed the top of my head. "How'd you enjoy spending your day with Mrs Graham?"
"Uh, you know." I shrugged my shoulders while taking a seat on the kitchen stool. "I just read a magazine, while she sewed a sweater or two."
"That woman and her sewing machine." My dad shook his head.
I lightly chuckled, and grabbed myself a glass of orange juice. "So, how was the speech you gave?"
"It was actually really good." He excitedly spoke. "I talked about t—"
"The phone's ringing!" I shrieked, almost falling off the stool. "You should probably answer it mom."
"I'll let it run to voicemail." She shrugged it off.
"No!" I rushed by her side. "It could be someone really important."
"What has gotten into you?" She questioned as I pushed her towards the wall phone.
"Just answer." I gave her a quick smile, before running behind the corner to listen.
"Hello?" My mother lowered her brows.
"Hi darling, it's Karen."
"Oh, Karen?" Her voice became sweeter. "How is everything? Your husband, Brooke—"
"Brooke's engaged."
"What?" I heard my mother gasp.
"Her boyfriend, Hoseok, proposed while they were at the mountains."
"Well that's interesting." My mother pursed her lips together.
"You're damn right." Karen sighed. "So listen, my daughter has been talking about this school dance since the beginning of the year, and now she's kind of bummed out that her boyfriend can't go. He had some deaths in the family and won't be in the city this week."
