Tying The Turns

My head ached terribly, it was as if an elf or something was in my head banging on my skull with a sledgehammer. Where was I? What happened...? Where's Maelstrom and Whirlpool? My thoughts tugged at me, the twins had tipped the boat over and one of the troops had knocked me unconscious.

Squinting my eyes from the Sun stabbing into my pupils, I began to realize that I was on an island. Tied to a tree in the most uncomfortable way possible. Grumbling, I shifted so I wasn't in much pain. "So you're awake," I heard a man's voice say, automatically I stiffened.

As a shadow loomed over me, my eyes adjusted fast enough so I was able to identify the troop member as the emerald ring wearer. "What do you want from me," I growled in a rather animal-like manner. "The Sun wants us to fetch you for h-"

"Why me?!" I interrupted. With that, I was greeted with a slap to the face. Just as his hand was about to leave my skin, I snarled and sunk my teeth into his flesh. Then, I was kicked in the gut. Quit being an animal, Luna! I scolded myself.

"You don't know?" the man asked as if none of the beatings happened. Glancing up at him, I tried to look as if I wasn't curious at all. The man sighed and he plopped down next to me. His blonde, reddish hair falling down a bit, just covering the tip of his left eye, my view. "I'm surprised that no one told you, I thought it was obvious," he said softly, suddenly appearing harmless.

Blinking, I looked at him with my lavender and gold eyes. "Luna, you're the descendant of the moon," he said and I couldn't help but laugh. "Now that's ridiculous!" I said, smiling. "First you say you're a troop sent from the Sun, a planet, and now that I'm the descendant of a moon?"

Instantly, the man's eyes went dark. "You don't believe me?" he said, standing up and moving towards me. Tensing, I closed my eyes, preparing for another beating, but I felt him grab my necklace and then yell in pain. The man had let it go and stumbled back. Holding his hand, he growled, "Believe me now?!"

It could just be a magic spell set by your father, I thought. But that couldn't be true, I've had this locket since birth and I basically never take it off. When I'm not wearing it it's either in my pocket or at my side. It must've been around the time I was an infant...

"H-H-How... Wh-Who... Wh-What..." I spluttered, clearly befuddled. "Luna, you're the daughter of the moon. Your name literally means moon and your biological last name means road-like reflections of the moon on the water. Make sense now?" he grumbled in annoyance. Slowly, I began to nod. "Y-You clearly know more about this than my adoptive family, why don't you adjust these ropes so I have more of a patience to listen and obey?" I said softly, and I was going to keep my word.

The man sighed and he leaned close to me, so close that our lips could almost touch and I felt the ropes loosen and then fall. He had untied me, leaning back he looked away. "You don't seem to be like the others..." I said as I rubbed my wrists. "It's because I was drafted into this assignment, I never wanted to do this or hurt anyone," he said and then I felt a sting. Gently touching where he had hit me I realized it left a mark and was just starting to bruise.

"Trust me, I never wanted this to happen either, I didn't ask to be the daughter of the moon..." I spoke gingerly, I was still trying to process this and accept it.

"James."

"Wha?"

"My name is James Walker," the trooper said. That's a nice name... I thought but I quickly directed them towards his ring. "So, I saw you all had those rings... What are they for?" I asked, looking at his diamond shaped emerald.

"It's uh... All the boys and girls in my home get a ring once they basically earn it... It's a gift from the Sun, the elders say that if you get it at an early age then you will be royalty and the Sun will visit you... If you get it at a later age then you are basically treated like trash, some are even thrown out of my tribe," he said, playing with his ring. "So if you get it at an early age, you're treated like royalty, but if you get it at a later age you're treated like a slave or hobo..." I said, deep in thought.

"Yeah, what about you and your locket?" he asked, his hand rashing from the contact. "Oh, uh, I've had this thing since I was an infant... I rarely, almost never take it off," I said, playing with it now. James nodded, looking at me with his deep marine blue eyes... Just two large puddles waiting... As if waiting for me to pounce and- what in purgatory?! I thought. Why the hell was I getting foul thoughts for someone who abused me, nearly killed me!

Shaking my head, I stood up and brushed the sand off from my clothing and pectoral lengthed hair. "We should get going," I said to him, he was looking up at me with those eyes and I fought back the blush that would've come. It just wasn't right...

He is the Sun and I am the Moon.

Author's Note:

Hello, hello, hello! I hope you all have enjoyed so far of this book. I know it might not be as eligible as other books, or enjoyable... But hey, at least I'm grabbing onto my dream and never letting go! I know some chapters are shorter or more boring than others and the character development might not be as spot on as it should be... But I'm working hard on this. I've been trying my very best to work on this, and don't sidetrack. Especially now since I have such a packed schedule. Also, if any of you happen to wonder what Luna's locket looks like...

Originally it was supposed to look like the locket I own, which is a steampunk kind of styled heart

Originally it was supposed to look like the locket I own, which is a steampunk kind of styled heart. But I think this would suit her better... But fun fact, that locket she has is something I am dying to own! As you can tell by my profile, I am obsessed with the galaxy. Mainly the moon and stars... But here's a small spoiler, we do actually get to meet the twins. Maybe the next chapter or the chapter after. Who knows!

Until we meet again my stars~!
