A week later

Etsuko had paced around my home more times than She could've counted, ran laps around her school, and her nervous jitters were noticed by everyone, tapping her fingers quickly or talking too quickly. It was unnerving; She'd never acted this way before, but the truth was that she was just antsy... Etsuko had been waiting for nearly a week for a letter, and so were all of her friends, always the first to the mailbox in the morning rummaging through envelopes exasperatedly.
Rakurai ate insanely large quantities of food at a time, Akira begged for extra homework to distract her, and Chibi's developed a stomach ache that's how nervous she is for her and her friends.

Etsuko stared off, tapping away at the wooden table. She was say beside her small family; her father and elder brothers glanced between each other tensely, chewing slowly on their dinner. Family meals occurred once in a while, as they were all usually too busy with hero work... although, her tapping made the mood quite cumbersome.
'well, she's definitely like her mother when it comes down to patience...' Junpei, Etsuko's father thought plainly.
Etsuko's body jerked as she was pulled out of her own head as Jomei, one of her older brothers, squeezed her shoulder.
"Don't worry, Hikaru and I were slowly going insane waiting for our letters back then." He assured her, smiling gently downward. Etsuko felt her face still flexed with concern with the entire situation.
"Anyway, how did you feel today?" Hikaru questioned his sister, shoving another bite into his mouth. Etsuko had still been aching after the entrance exam, it turned out that her shoulder was fractured from her impact. She still remembered the hot white pain running through her as she stared up at the mechanical giant.
"My arm is better, I still can't stretch too much... Akira is still treating me, she says I should be completely healed in about three days. I appreciate that she's taking her time to do something like this for me." I said softly, a feeling of wonder washed over me as I remembered her habit of impatience. She's probably drowning herself in a complex, yet unnecessary essay about the history of metamorphic rocks or something...
"You're really lucky to have friends like that on your side, Etsuko." Hikaru smiled at her warmly as to reassure her, her father surely would have something to say about the matter;
"She's just trying to make up for the mistake she made of getting in the way, besides how great can they be if they let you get hurt in the first place." Junpei moved his good around in the bowl with the sticks folded in his fingers. Etsuko's eyes trailed down to her plate; her brothers knew just how she felt; her father wasn't exactly as ferocious with them when they were younger, they assumed the trouble of such harsh reinforcement came along with inherited quirks.
"It didn't hurt that much, anyway..." Etsuko mumbled. Her brothers exchanged a look of distaste; she was probably in for some gut-spilling training if her father would learn that she was not accepted into the hero school of a lifetime, they thought, trying to look past his inappropriate comments.
'I mean, we did really well, I did really well...' Etsuko thought, chewing on her lip until it swelled. The lulling, gentle sound of the clock ticked on, there is no reason I should be doubting myself, she thought further, and yet, her stomach swirled with conviction and contempt. Etsuko's eyes wandered, too consumed with her thoughts.
'I mean, my average was in the seventies, and based on statistical earned exam points, that's quite a few... based on my own estimates, the written exam should be just enough to enter the general classes at U.A. at least...' a deep sigh escaped her.
"I know, hun. Waiting for the results is nerve racking." Junpei said softly, his demeanor alternating suddenly.
"..."
"Well, no matter what, I just want you to know that your mother would be so proud... "My father placed his hand on mine; It was just like him to mention my beloved mother in times of great importance, always reminding me that she would always be with me. But Etsuko's eyelids fell further; she had always wished for him to be just as proud as he made her mother seem. When Etsuko's father speaks of her mother, his voice gets very soft, yet encouraging. It made Etsuko's stomach tingle as if a thousand butterflies were flying around erratically in that instant.
"I know..." Etsuko said, nearly a whisper. She retreated her hand from under his.
For as long as she could remember, Etsuko's father had tried his hardest to  be sure she was independent and strong, respectful and kind, she needed to possess the true qualities of a hero, but he introduced them to her through brutal training, pushing his dreams of eternal success unto her. Her brothers were the best at making her feel better when she was sucked into her own mind like this and so were the wonderful friends she had, and had yet to make.
"L-Listen, I'm not too hungry tonight, I had snacks studying with Akira earlier..." Etsuko laughed nervously, squeezing her fists tight sheepishly.
"Great, you must have enough energy to get a good workout in before bedtime?" Junpei perked up, a slick smile spreading widely across his face.
"Hey, come on now, dad; Etsuko's had it pretty rough lately, I think you should shed a bit of mercy this time around." Jomei jumped in quickly; he could see that his sister was clearly drowning in pain and her nerves were crawling with insecurity.
"Hmm... I guess it's been a long day. We should all head to bed. I have a trip in the morning anyway." Junpei became relaxed, standing to clear the table. The brothers sighed with relief, their breath cut short watching Etsuko dismiss herself as quickly as possible and speed walk to her room. Even though it was only eight o'clock, Etsuko knew she would have to toil with herself to get a good night's rest in times like these.
Goodnight mom, Etsuko thought to herself as she snuggled deeper into her bundles of blankets, hopefully tomorrow is better. Tell dad to be more considerate if you could please, Etsuko twitched a brow as every part of her slowly destressed, sinking into the bed comfortably.
