Chapter 36: Bleak yet pleasant

It was August 13, a black day for JK. He have heard that Ryan passed away that day. Pinky's lullaby had put JK to sleep but he slept with an heavy heart. It was a Saturday. Pinky too was sleeping tight but with a bad feeling and a terrifying dream, she got up. She saw JK was sleeping beside her. It was a pleasant morning and she saw a tiny aeroplane passing through the rainbow in the sky. She loved watching them but they looked big from her Santacruz bungalow. She saw a kingfisher was leaning on the Antenna and to kill the pleasant moment, a Raven had landed on the terrace and it hopped near JK, croaking. It was a bad omen, she thought. Her mother often said it symbolized death and JK was lying silently. A fear gripped her mind. His palmistry indicated accidents and some mishaps in life. She wanted to wake him up. She silently whispered into his ears:

My love, my better half, get up...

She heard JK was sniffing but still sleeping and she touched his forehead and she was glad he did not have fever. The Raven had come fluttering near them and this time, she was double angry and she angirly clapped her hands and screamed something. JK got up with a sudden jerk and he did not realize that he was beside Pinky. He was blank and felt it was Rani screaming and was about to slap him.

He jabbered without opening his eyes completely :

Maa Sone De... Mennu kuch thik nahi lag raha hein ( Mom, please let me sleep, l don't feel good)

He sat leaning to the wall and closed his eyes...

Pinky loved to glare at him. He looked very cute and she wanted to check the time. She was not wearing a watch but JK was wearing the Zen watch that Ryan had left for him...

Pinky pulled his hand and she saw it was 8: 58:57. She found the watch was imported and with next two minutes and three seconds, the radium light flashed 9:00. The lights made her happy and like a kid she pressed the side button and the watch sang :

Happy Birthday to you ...

She wanted to open it and see but her delicate darling was sniffing and sleeping. She went close to him and lovingly rubbed his nose. He felt it was chotu and he hit her hard on her head. Pinky was now angry and she pulled his hair hard and he shouted:

Chotu, I hate you and opened his eyes. He saw Pinky was sitting next to him and he have hurt her, by mistake but did not realize that. He gave her a Colgate smile but she gave him an angry look... He wondered What was wrong and he felt scared.... Did something happened last night?

He walked on his knees and went closer to her and she pushed him. He silently asked :

My love, did I do anything wrong last night that hurt you. I am sorry and if you have preggers we can get married immediately...

Pinky was enjoying his stupid question and she wondered:

How is this boy a simpleton?...

She felt pity for him and his fear for his mother. Lipstick Powder shop must be really cruel, she pondered and she behaved like his younger brother made her laugh. Ravi must be cute and she wanted to see him, but how was a question? and without saying anything, pretending she was angry she playfully pushed him, but smiled while getting downstairs. He did not understand what was wrong and he saw time was 9:15 and the date on it reminded him that it was Ryan's death anniversary. He closed his eyes and sat in Vajrasan(yoga) position. He made a sign of cross and said "Our father in heaven," prayer and said :

Rain Bhaiya, I love you and May your soul Rest in peace till I meet you there...

He had not seen anyone dying in his life and loosing a friend was a trauma. Seven years have passed but the stars often reminded him of Ryan and his blue eyes... If he would have been alive, he would be 28. He often said he will marry DD and JK will be his best man as he is a good boy.
