Let me start by saying, I didn't know he liked me.
Myles, I mean. I thought he hated me.
The date with Kalin was... magical. We went ice skating and he's surprisingly good at it. Of course I almost died 100 times but he was always there to hold me and pick me up. Afterwards we went to an ice cream place called Eskimo's which literally taste like heaven. Apparently me and Kalin stay pretty close to each other so he decided to walk me home.
I grabbed his hand, which fit nicely into mine, and walked close to his side. The hot morning turned into a warm night and a warm breeze glided through my hair as we talked and laughed. There's a park that separates my neighborhood from Kalin's. We decided to take a seat on the bench beside the lake. It as beautiful at night. I didn't have to be home for another 45 minutes so we decided to take a seat.
"It feels so nice out here!" I exclaimed, taking a deep breath. "Yeah it does. I had so much fun with you tonight." I smiled up at him to see him smiling back at me. "I did too. My butt is probably forever bruised but it was nice having you there to help me up." We both let out a laugh and then fell silent. And not the awkward type silence but the kind you can be contempt with. It wasn't long before that silence was broken, and not by me or Kalin.
"Kalin? What the fuck?" I knew that voice too well and so did Kalin. I could feel him tense up. He squeezed my hand tightly, attempting to comfort himself. I kissed him softly on the cheek and told him it would be okay. Slowly he began to turn around and face his best friend. "Hey Myles." I felt so bad for putting them both in this situation.
"You went behind my back? Are you kidding me? You fucking piece of shit." Myles face was red, like it always was when he was mad. Kalin was stumbling over his words, obviously caught off guard and nervous so I decided to help him out. "Leave him alone Myles, this has nothing to do with you!" his eyes shifted to me and I swore, for a moment, he looked hurt.
"You don't know what the fuck you're talking about, stay in your lane." It was said so calmly, it was scary. I decided to back down and let them talk it out but I leaned towards Kalin with let him know I was still there with him, supporting him. Myles looked back at Kalin and waited for him to say something. Finally Kalin swallowed hard and spoke back. "I really like her!"
"So do I!"
Wait what?
"You have a girlfriend!"
I'm so confused, I thought as I looked between Myles and Kalin. Myles lowered his head and this time spoke softer. "That's not the point. You knew. I told you and you went behind my back." I grew totally silent and I didn't dare say a word. I looked down at my phone and saw I had 5 minutes to get home. My house was at least a 10 minute walk from there. Panicking and confused, I quickly kissed Kalin, looked once more at what seemed like a pained Myles and then took off running home.
I got home quickly but out of breath. I began panting loudly once I reached my porch. I tried to think about what had just happened. Did Myles... like me? It couldn't be. We hated each other. Right?
