PART TWO! This is the longest part I've written in a loooooooong time.
----
When Alice stormed through her front door, she was mad.
Her fingers trembled as she didn't hesitate another second to light the stolen cigarette, praying it would calm her down just as it had in the past.
She inhaled the welcomed smoke and waited for a second for it to create its calming effects.
It didn't work.
"Argh!" She yelled but continued puffing on the cigarette as she paced around the living room, embracing the toxic thoughts yelling at her in her head.
How could she be so fucking stupid?
She knew who Isaac was!
She spent all her years with him in high school, she knew he was the kind of guy who could charm anyone into believing he wasn't the manipulative, evil, scumbag he really was.
Including her! He sure charmed her.
She let out a cold laugh to herself and took a drag off the cigarette.
How could she be so dumb? She knew better than this!
This was the perfect situation for Isaac.
He got to have his cake and eat it, too.
"Waah, I'm Isaac, and I'm so anxious that I need a stupid stressball and a bottle of valium to survive," she said in a low, mocking voice as she kicked the ground. "Alice, we can't possibly be open about our relationship. Otherwise, how could I possibly continue fucking Fiona."
Once the words left her mouth, she felt a knife stab through her heart.
The anger inside her dissipated, and instead, she was left feeling numb.
Her knees wobbled and she buckled onto the couch, sinking into the soft cushions. With her face in her hands, she closed her eyes and remembered the words Fiona said.
"We've remained close friends after our break up..."
The knife in her heart turned, making Alice keel over.
Did they actually keep in touch?
The rational part of her knew that Isaac likely hadn't hooked up with Fiona. However, the thought of him remaining "close friends" with her? Behind Alice's back? While she was barely allowed to glance in Derek's direction without Isaac having a fucking panic attack?
She lit another cigarette the second she finished the first.
Humiliation ate her up. There Alice was - dumb, naive, little Alice - feeling giddy because she might be able to act like a couple in front of her friends? Getting butterflies because he managed to splurge on a 100$ patio furniture set for her? Wow!
Meanwhile, the thousands of people who read that blog post, who saw the picture, all assume Isaac is with Fiona.
Why wouldn't they?
Fiona got the precious romantic public dinner Alice craved. Fiona didn't have to hide behind closed doors. Why would Isaac hide that gem? She was stunning, after all. The perfect arm candy for his publicity.
In the public's eyes, Alice would be considered the mistress.
So much embarrassment.
So much foolishness.
She knew she was being immature for storming away from Isaac. However, she knew he would be there any minute.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
