AHH ONE CHAPTER LEFT AFTER THIS! I was going to post them back-to-back, but I'm impatient and don't want to wait until finishing the last one, SOOO here ya go!

-----

"I can't believe Isaac got a DUI," Emily said, a hint of amusement in her voice as she flopped onto the couch, her legs dangling over the arms. Scrolling through her phone, reading various blog posts, she let out a quick cackle. "Ha! Oh my god, he's the new Lindsey Lohan."

"Hey, don't be too mean to our little trainwreck," Blaise said, scooting on the couch next to Emily.

Curled up in an armchair across the room, Alice smiled as Emily instinctively rested her head in his lap and Blaise gently ran his fingers through her blonde hair. The ease of the simple action brought a warmth to Alice; even if she didn't have the same luck, she was so happy her friends found each other.

"He's going to be getting enough flack from everyone else in the world," Blaise said to Emily. "The least we can do is not be one of them."

"I know, I know, but you can't deny that it is kind of funny, right?" Emily said. "It's just such an Isaac thing to do."

"I hate to admit it," Alice said. "But I've kind of got to agree with her. It really is so 'Isaac'"

Blaise rolled his eyes before peering at Emily's phone. "How bad is it?"

"Oh. This is my favorite one: 'Sex, Drugs, and Money: The Consequence of Premature Affluence'." Emily snorted. "Pfft, Isaac is so cheap, I'm pretty sure the only thing that keeps him somewhat balanced is his inability to splurge once in a while."

Alice threw her head back and giggled. Since Isaac's accident two days prior, Emily had been consistently making small jabs against Isaac. Of course, she was worried sick initially, but as soon as Blaise explained what really happened, she happily took any opportunity to tease Isaac behind his back. Even though Alice felt terrible for Isaac's misfortunes and was worried sick about how he was going to handle them, Emily making light of the situation helped a little bit.

None of them had heard from Isaac since visiting him in the hospital. Alice sent him a text telling him she was there for him no matter what, but Isaac didn't respond. Instead of overanalyzing what his silence meant, Alice chose to believe that he was simply stressed over the accident and he would reach out when he was ready.

Although, she couldn't stop thinking about what he was going to say in the hospital...

The look in his eyes, it looked so pure and raw, as if it was panging him to hold back his thoughts for another minute.

But, of course, the second they were interrupted the expression vanished.

Although part of Alice was tempted to visit Isaac again and prod it out of him, she decided she was going to be patient instead. Despite each of their lives turning into a giant mess, for the first time in a while, Alice felt like everything was going to be okay. She didn't really know what 'Okay' meant, but she felt like everything would work itself out the way it needed to.

She had no idea what was going to happen with her and Isaac. Sure, the emotions in the air were high last time they saw each other, but still, nothing had changed.

Maybe they were going to finally accept that it wasn't meant to be. Maybe their acceptance and truly moving on from each other would be their happily ever after.

This hurt Alice. But she was okay with it.

It would be many grueling months of moving forward, but she knew she would fully recover. With any luck, she and Isaac would remain friends. Or at least civil enough to be in the same room as each other.
