Chapter Sixteen

It has been two days since I started staying with Daemon at his house and I couldn't help but feel very awkward the whole time. His house was huge and he had tons of maids and personal butlers.

I let out a huff and put the magazine I was reading down on the coffee table. Daemon looked up from his work and looked up.
"Bored?"

Of course I was bored. We have been in his study for the past two hours but I chose not to say that because he already had so much work to deal with and I didn't want to be in his way.
"Nah I already read all those magazines. Want me to make some snacks?"

"It's okay. I'll get someone to make them for us." He said picking up his phone to call but I stopped him.

"No I'll make it. So umm where is the kitchen?" I asked getting up and walking downstairs to the kitchen. I was greeted by the chef who's name I later found out was Gavin. He was a middle aged man who didn't look that old and had a slight French accent.

"Would you like anything?" He asked smiling brightly. I simply shook my head.

"No thank you but could you tell me where the bowls are?" I asked. I decided myself that I was going to bake a cake for him. I loved cooking and frankly was getting really excited to cook for Daemon.

Gavin looked up at me with a shocked expression. "No no! I will prepare the food no need to dirty your hands mademoiselle!" I couldn't help but smile at him and refused any help.

"I want to bake a cake for him."

"Oh. I see." He winked at me and took out the necessary ingredients.
"Would you mind if I watched you while you make it?"

"Go ahead though I'm afraid I won't be as good as you." I chuckled as I tied the apron. Gavin took a seat in one of the high counter chairs. I looked over the ingredients before me. Eggs I need eggs. I grabbed three from the carton and cracked them into the bowl making sure not to get any shells in and started mixing. I poured roughly one cup of sugar into the bowl not bothering to get an exact measurement and started mixing again. I looked up at Gavin to see him wiping a tear from his eyes.

"Whoa! What's wrong?" I asked panicked.

"Nothing I'm just really glad that you are taking your time to make things like this for Daemon." He smiled at me warmly. I smiled back and proceeded on by mixing the rest of the ingredients adding something extra of my own. Gavin lifted his eyebrows in question but I just grinned.

I poured the mix into the cake pans and tossed them into the oven. Grabbing some baking chocolate, I decided to make a lava topping to add to the chocolate cake. I could feel Gavin's eyes on me as I was preparing it. I smiled to myself as I tasted chocolate sauce. Yes! I took the cake out of the oven and flipped it on a large plate. I cut a slice and got some whipped cream out of the fridge spooning one on top of the triangle piece. Then I poured the sauce on top and decorating it with some fresh raspberries.

"Here try it." I handed him the plate and eagerly watched his reaction as he took a bite from the cake. He looked up with a large smile.

"C'est délicieux!" He exclaimed coming around to hug me. "You must tell me this recipe! What extra thing did you put in it though?"

I smiled at him and winked.
"One must never reveal their recipes...but I never go by the book so I might as well tell you. I just put orange zest."

"You like cooking, don't you?" He asked.

"Yes I do." I beamed at the kitchen. I always loved cooking. It was my forte.
