Back earlier than expected I know. so here it is, the next chapter I can only hope you enjoy!
My eyes fluttered open to see the chaos before me as I lay on the floor in a pool of blood and rose petals. I could feel myself slipping away, and out of all the ways I've died, I can certainly say I have never bled to death. I could hear the girls shouting in panic around me. Weiss had run to get the nurse, that much I could make out. I could hear Ruby sobbing, poor child has probably never hurt a person. Let alone nearly cut one in half. I felt hands on my chest and boy was that painful. I look up to see Blake with her hands over the wound trying to staunch the bleeding, but I knew only one thing would help me. I coughed out the words. "Blood." my voice was weak and raspy. "No, you're gonna be fine Edgar just hold on!" I grasped Blake's hand from my chest wound and pointed her to my satchel which sat on the stands a small distance away. "Blood vials." I choked out. She tore her eyes away from me and rushed to grab them, shuffling through my satchel her eyes lit up and she brought them over. I reached for one and she placed it in my hand. I quickly slammed the blood vial into my leg and a rush of relief came over me. The pain began to fade and I could feel the large gash on my chest begin to stitch itself back together. I breathed deeply and promptly blacked out again but before the darkness claimed me a soft voice echoed in my ears.
'I shall watch over you, Good Hunter.'
I awoke again to a white room. 'This must be an infirmary' I thought to myself. To my surprise, the team sat around me. Yang was comforting Ruby, Blake was reading a book, and Weiss was speaking to a nurse. I looked to Ruby, the poor young girls eyes red from crying. She must have thought she'd killed me. I was going to say something but before I could manage Yang nudged Ruby to look at me and when she saw me she launched out of the chair and landed next to my hospital bed. "Edgar! You're okay!" I nodded to the girl. "I'm okay." I repeated. Those must have been the wrong words because she latched onto my arm and began to sob. Repeating I'm sorry over and over again. I looked to Yang for advice. I'd never really had to deal with loss, I tended to hunt alone...It was easier that way. She gave me a sorrowful smile and a thumbs up. By now the rest of the team were standing around the bed looking at the scene unfolding in front of them. I ever so slowly put my around Ruby and began to rub small circles on her back and she slowly calmed down. There was a moment of peace before the questions began. Things like, why didn't my aura take the hit, why didn't I have an aura to begin with, and what was in that strange vial you injected into your leg.
I explained as best as I could why I didn't know what an aura was, or I suppose why I don't have one, and when I told them it was blood they looked a little grossed out. "You injected yourself with blood?" I nodded. "I need it to heal my wounds and it keeps me going sometimes, it's horrible to drink though." Ruby removed herself from my arm and looked at me in horror. "You're a vampire!?" I put my hands up in defense. "No, no of course not that would be silly." She didn't look like she believed me and she scooted a couple of inches away from me but she still had a hand on my bed. "It might explain the eyes." I was confused for a moment but then it dawned on me. I had forgotten about my Heterochromia. My left eye is a dark blue and my right is a bright green. "I have Heterochromia. It doesn't make me a vampire, it just means my eyes are different colors." A collection of oh's went around the room and I nodded. "Well, what about your hair? You trying to impersonate a Schnee?" Blake asked me and I cocked my head to the side. "What's a Schnee?" Weiss got red in the face and began to sputter. "Are you okay Weiss?" She opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out, so she grabbed a seat and turned her head away from me. Meanwhile Yang and Ruby had doubled over in laughter and Blake came to my side and pointed to Weiss. "That's a Schnee." I quickly apologized to the now flustered Weiss. She looked at me then back to the floor and huffed out a 'you should be' and returned looking at the floor.
"So." I looked back to Blake. "Where's your Aura?" I didn't know how to answer that I already explained I don't have one. "Well?" I went to answer as best I could, but I was cut off. "Mr. Edgar does not have an Aura." Unbeknownst to me and the girls, Ozpin had entered. "Isn't that right." He phrased it as a question, but it sounded like he knew. I nodded. "I do not possess this 'Aura' you all speak of. Would you be so kind as to educate me?" He simply smiled and nodded. "Aura is what protects us, it keeps us safe and it heals our wounds." He paused and took a sip of his coffee. "In a way, it is similar to those blood vials you carry. Allowing you to walk away from potentially life-threatening injuries." I was beginning to get a grasp on what he meant. In a way, I could be protected and healed, without the use of the blood vials. I rubbed my thigh where I usually had to stab the vials. The rush of blood is without compare, and the feeling of being brought back from the brink is something I cannot explain. "I think I understand." He looked pleased with himself. "Very well. Come see me in my office when you are discharged, and we'll see about your Aura. Does this sound acceptable to you?" I nodded happily. This would change everything.
"So, that's settled then." I turned to Weiss as she approached my bed. "Now to properly educate you on the history of Remnant." I smiled at Weiss. "That sounds lovely." I did so enjoy learning.
(For those who are unsure about Edgar's appearance. He is 6 feet tall, has heterochromatic eyes, the left is dark blue and the right is bright green. He has almost Schnee like white hair and sharp facial features. He wears Gascoigne's Garb, Hunters Trousers, Hand Wraps, and Djura's Wolf Cap.)
