Cute Walruses

“You look cute.”

“I look like a walrus.”

“No you don’t.”

“Yes I do.”

“Maybe a cute, baby walrus?”

“Nah. An ugly one full of blubber. I don’t want to look like a walrus, Lyssi. I would much rather looking like a graceful swan.” I told my best friend.

We were examining potential outfits that I could wear on my date 3 hours from now.

“Wait! I have just the thing!” Alyssa said, standing up from where she was lying on the bed before. She stood up. Began to walk. Stopped again. Paused to think. And then looked towards my confused face.

“What?” I asked.

“Follow me.” She said, taking my hand and pulling me out of the room.

We ended up going to Lyssi’s closet.

“I'm guessing I’m borrowing something from you.”

“Yup.” She said, kneeling down to be at eye-level of her clothes.

“Alyssa! You are messing up your whole closet! I helped you clean this like, an hour ago!” I protested.

But Lyssi didn’t listen. Instead, she continued to go through her millions of clothes, looking for something.

Finally, she paused at a dress at the back of her closet.

“Why couldn’t life chose to be easier and make this dress be the first thing in your closet so I wouldn’t have to clean it again?” I asked.

“Shut it about the cleaning and look at this.” She pointed to the dress.

It was a midnight blue, short dress with its straps hanging just above where my shoulder and arm met.  There was a big gather at the waist and then the dress flowed to just above my knee. It was elegant and simple yet a bit fancy. In other words, it was perfect.

“This is the one.” I stated.

“You know a dress is perfect when the girl doesn’t even have to try it on and knows that it’s the one.” Lyssi said. “I wish I had a date.”

“You did. Yesterday with that guy from your college.” I pointed out.

“Yah….I know...”

“But that’s not the guy you want to have a date with, is it?” I asked.

“No…”

“Come on babe, Harry likes you. He might even love you. And you love him. He just has to get up the nerve to ask you out.” I told her.

“Why doesn’t he? And besides….. ”

“Because he is intimidated by your beauty.” I half-joked. “And besides what?”

“Totally.” Alyssa replied sarcastically. “ Besides, I think I'm in love with someone else. Now go change. Lizzie wants to do your makeup and hair before Louis comes over.”

“OH MY GOD ALYSSA ANASTASIA HART!!!! TELL ME!!”

“Go change and I’ll tell you.”

“Nope.”

“Nope what?”

“I'm not moving a muscle until you tell me.”

“You are very stuborn.”

“But im your stuborn best friend.” I told her. “And I deserve to know who my bestie is in love with! Now spill!”

“Fine. There's this guy in my culinary school. His names Adam. But he has a girlfriend.”
