The school looked exactly the same as it did when they were here last year. Nothing was added or removed, nothing was replaced, it appeared that nothing had moved either. Tyler and Josh could easily find their way around, and just like that, they found Brendon at the table he described.
Exactly the same place, same seat he always sat at, even. He saved seats for them by putting his backpack right in the center of the table. He's looking down at his schedule, which has his handwriting on the blank half in pen. His hair is slicked back haphazardly on top of his head, ready to fall right back in front of his eyes at any moment. He's wearing a red button up shirt, presumably also trying to make the good first impression. Someone else's stuff was in the seat next to him. It's probably Ryan's. Brendon looks up at Tyler and Josh.
"Hey! You made it!" His eyes lit up. "You came together, did you carpool?"
"Yeah." Tyler answered as he sat down diagonally across the table from Brendon. Josh sat next to Tyler, directly across from Brendon.
"How's your morning so far?" Brendon asked, not directed at either of them specifically.
Tyler spots Ryan out of the crowd, walking back to the table. Ryan's a little taller than the average height of the rest of the students, so he's not that hard to spot. Also that Beatles haircut is unmistakable. He's also wearing a button up shirt. It's brown, long sleeved and thin, made of satin and polyester patterned in stripes, like a muted blue set of sheets Tyler has. At least Ryan isn't dressed too well. He's wearing navy blue skinny jeans and red Converse shoes.
Ryan sits down next to Brendon, across the table from Tyler and greets Tyler and Josh with a question. "Oh! Are we all dressed nice today?"
"I mean, I thought I was gonna be the only one who dressed nice." Tyler commented. "Turns out Josh is the only one who didn't dress nice."
Josh looks down at his Blue Day t-shirt, ripped jeans and worn out black Converse shoes. He dressed for his friends, not impressionable freshmen.
Ryan looks around the crowded cafeteria, and squinting his eyes as if looking for someone. "Have you seen Pete and Patrick anywhere?"
"No I haven't. I wasn't really looking either. Sorry." Brendon responds casually. "They're probably not here yet for all I know. Why?"
"Just really looking for Pete. I got something to say to him." Ryan narrows his eyes.
"You have him in creative writing, right?" Brendon asked.
"Yeah, I guess I could wait. Don't want to though." Ryan shrugs.
"I thing you're in my creative writing class, too!" Tyler interjects. "5th period, right?"
"Yeah! How cool, we'll be writing buddies!" Ryan looks up and spots four other teens walking towards the table. "Hey, is that-"
It's Ruby, Jenna, Gerard, his little brother Mikey, and Frank. Ruby's wearing a floral t-shirt and jean shorts with white worn out sneakers. Jenna's in an orange sundress, unknowingly fitting the 'dressed half-nice' theme, but in character for her, too. Gerard and Frank didn't fit any 'theme.' They dressed all in black, as always. Gerard even dyed his hair back after he grew it out over the summer. It matches his black skinny jeans, Converse, and Equilibrium t-shirt. Frank is dressed almost the same exact way, except he's wearing a The Bandits t-shirt. Mikey's the only one who wasn't dressed in black. He's wearing blue jeans and a blue t-shirt with a graphic of a realistic-looking unicorn. Mikey looks like he couldn't care less about it, because he's on his phone and has his earbuds in, not paying any attention to any conversation all the juniors were having. He takes as seat at the end of the table while the other four remain standing.
Jenna was the first of the quartet to talk. "Why's everyone dressed so nice?"
Everyone at the table groaned. "You're the second one today to say that." Tyler admitted through a smile. "Did you all magically get here at the same time or what?"
"We carpooled. They all rode with me. We could've been here sooner, but I kinda lost my bearings a bit going West from Frank's house."
"My bad." Frank entered. "Didn't know Ruby hadn't drove from the East side to school before."
"Hey, At least I didn't make you all late." Ruby retorted. "Now that would've been a tragedy."
"Not a tragedy," Ryan interrupted. "A sin. Because you didn't make it on the first day."
"A tardy." Brendon added.
"Thanks for the addition, theaturds." Frank teased.
Ryan and Brendon smiled at each other and lightly laughed. "That's a new one." Ryan replied.
Jenna joins the fray again. "Well, what's really important is that we're all here and we won't be that far apart from each other all day."
"Well actually," Josh begins. "I have a two-period class at the vocational school."
"Construction, right?" Tyler asks.
"Yep."
"Why are you in construction, of all things?" Gerard interjected.
Josh shrugged. "If drumming fails, I can build stuff instead, I guess."
Brendon nods. "Understandable."
Ryan got annoyed. "Where the fuck is Pete?"
"I think I saw him by the fine arts hall." Gerard answered, in hopes of getting Ryan to calm down.
"Well what the hell's he doing down there? He's not in theater."
"Probably looking for you."
"Well he needs to get his ass over here."
"Why don't you just text him?" Frank interrupted.
"Of course. I'm an idiot." Ryan says exasperatedly, while pulling out his phone, not knowing Pete actually walked up behind him. He put his hand on Ryan's shoulder, startling Ryan and making him turn around.
He quickly puts his phone away. "There you are! Jeez. Where's Patrick?"
"He went to the bathroom. We were looking for you in the theater hall, then he dipped. Bell's about to ring anyway, we should go."
"Okay. See ya in a few hours, Bren." Ryan gets up and pats Brendon's back before he leaves with Pete. Brendon looks up at Ryan and smiled at him as he walked away. He turned back around and says to everyone, "Yeah, we should probably go."
The bell rings and everyone stands up and parts ways in unison.
It's sure to be in interesting day.
