"H-How do you know who I am?" I ask. "Easy. I read your newspaper articles. Most people think it's total bull or get completely paranoid, but I know it's the complete truth." Mahiru says stopping at a corner and catching her breath.

"So I'm not crazy?!" I ask happily. "Well I don't know you all that much. You don't look crazy." She replies. "Wait so can you come with me to my old workplace and convince my old boss that I'm not making fake articles? At least then I would able to work peacefully without him hovering over my shoulder." I say to Mahiru. 'The thing is will my old boss re-hire me.' I thought.

"I'm sorry. Ms. (Y/n) no can do." She says to me. "Hah? Why not?!" I ask. "We want to prevent this world from going to full on despair. You'll have to keep it to yourself for awhile until nessecary." She says to me sorrowfully. "Then how the hell am I supposed to pay my rent?" I ask. "Easy! My boss wants to hire you!" She Smiles.

"Wait really?" I ask surprisingly. She nods in response. "When can I meet them?" I ask. "Right now." She replied giggling. I was confused so I looked around. "Where?" I ask. Before I can look back at Mahiru, everything went black.

~~~~~~Timeskip~~~~~~
"Honestly Mahiru you need to be more careful. She could've went comatose or even lose her memories." A muffled voice said. I groan in pain as I open my eyes. "Oh she's waking up." A young boyish voice spoke.
I sit up while holding my head. "Where the hell am I?" I ask. "You're in our secret hideout." Mahiru spoke. "Please tell me I didn't get my self into something I might regret." I say holding my head. "Nope! At least I don't think so." She replied resting he pointer finger on her chin in question. "Why am I here?" I ask once again.
"Oh, right sorry. (Y/n) you're here because our boss found some useful information from your newspaper articles. You've been leading us down the right path, but we're still so far away." A girl with green hair spoke. I looked at Mahiru and she nodded. "You've been helpful to us and you didn't even know, since you quit your job you'll be able to help us physically without acknowledging our existence." She said.
"How did you know I quit my job?" I ask. Mahiru took a step back. "Seriously? You haven't told her?" The green haired girl asked. "I didn't have the time Komaru! We were being chased!" Mahiru replies. "Haven't told me what?" I ask. I look at Mahiru and saw a camera wrapped around her neck. It all made sense now.
"YOU'VE BEEN STALKING ME??" I yell immediately standing up, I regretted my decision afterwards. "Ow my head." I whine sitting down back on the bed. "Told you." Komaru spoke to Mahiru.
"Well where's your boss?" I asked. Everyone looked at me confused. "Well I'm not going to be convinced to get this job if I just sit here and listen to your guy's rambling." I sigh. "Right follow me." Mahiru said. I stood up still holding my head and I followed Mahiru out of the infirmary and to the boss's office.
"So where exactly is this secret base?" I ask. "Six feet underground underneath a salon. The boss is the only one who knows we work down here." She replies. "If you were gonna tell me that, why the hell did you have to knock me out to take me here?" I retort.
"Ms. Kirigiri said just Incase you didn't want to join our agency, she's cautious, so of course we'll take drastic measures just for her." She replies. "Well that's considerate of you guys." I reply. She giggled and gave me her thanks.
"We're here!" Mahiru chimed and stopped front of a door, causing me to bump into her back afterwards. "Ow!" I yelped rubbing my nose. "Sorry!" Mahiru apologized rubbing the back of her neck. I just glared at her. She looked frightened so she turned around and knocked on the door. "Ms. Kirigiri! (Y/n) has woken up!" She shouted through the door. "Send her in." Another female voice said through the door.
"That's your cue (y/n)." Mahiru said winking at me. I nodded and heading into the office. It was very dull and they had very boring colors like grey, moss green, brown, and black. It was very professional if you ask me. Looking right ahead of me was a girl the same age, or possibly a few years older than me sitting at a spruce wooden desk.
"Sorry about the miscommunications that my employee did to get you here, although it was rather nessecary." Kirigiri spoke. "Yes of course." I say sitting at a chair in front of her desk. "Mahiru told me the reason. It makes sense. Although I wish she didn't hit me so hard." I say rubbing the back of my head. She chuckled in response. "Anyways let's get down to business." She says. I nodded in response.
"So you've seen the despairants in action correct?" She asked me. I nodded in response. "They've been riding on the backs of these black and white bears, killing other people and yet the other people who see don't seem to care, It's usually seen often on the north side of town." I say seriously.
"Yes we seem to believe every citizen in Japan are under some sort of vision so they won't see what's actually happening, it's something we can take to our advantage." She spoke resting her head on her hand. "What I don't understand Ms. Kirigiri is that if every other citizen was under the effect why not me?" I ask.
"I'm not sure. And if I'm being honest, I'm pretty sure you were until you knocked yourself out of it, I've seen the same thing that you do, see everything in complete chaos and everyone is acting naturally like nothing happened, it's strangely odd." She said.
Suddenly something strange crossed my mind at that moment.
"Ms. Kirigiri May I speak my mind?" I ask. "Of course, this is you initiation after all." She replied bluntly. "Wow that was blunt." I muttered. "What was that?" She asked me. "Nothing!" I reply quickly while waving my hands in a crazy manner.
"Anyway what I was going to say is, I think you have to have some physical trauma or some sort of pain during the despairants act of trouble making to snap out of the trance that you're in." I spoke while slightly tapping my foot. "You're evidence?" She asked in a slightly curious manner.
"Well, about a year ago when this all happened when everyone was in their drugged trance I was taking pictures for this newspaper article and this boy was skating towards the chaos, I think I still have the picture. Anyways he tripped and fell off his skateboard, when he looked towards the action he started to cry and run away."
"That's seem probable, anything else?" She asks me while leaning forward into her chair. I gulped. "Yes there is." I say.
"This actually happened earlier today on my way home from the café, I was walking home minding my own business until I heard a scream come from an alleyway, I went towards the sound to see a girl with long hair and she had a mask on, she was pointing a katana at a girl's neck the girl was frightened, like it's the first time she saw a katana in her life." I say seriously. "She basically gave me a look that asked for help. She looked like she wanted to say something but she couldn't."
"Maybe because she was forced to stay quiet?" Kirigiri asked curiously. "No because the blade was so close to her throat. One movement and her jugular would be gone." I reply. "How do you know she wasn't threatened?" Kirigiri asked. "Because when the suspect talked to me her throat was dry and hoarse, most likely she didn't talk for a few days." I reply fidgeting with my hands. "It's cold in here." I shiver. "We're six feet underground, what do you expect?"
"Anyways, welcome to the agency." Kirigiri congratulates me. "Wait I got in?!" I asked surprisingly. "You did, I was going to ask you a few questions but what you told me earlier was some good clues, so I believe asking you questions isn't nessecary." She Smiles. "And I thought this was going to be hard." I say wiping a sweat off my forehead. "How so?" Kirigiri asked. "You just look like an intimidating person, and hard to please."
She chuckles. "That's what everyone says about me all the time, but yeah you got in, congratulations." She smiles.
"YES!" There was a scream on the other side of the door. Kirigiri gets up and slams her fist on the door. "OW!" The same voice yelled. "Mahiru, she's in, start the preparations." Kirigiri spoke. 'Ah That was Mahiru!' I thought. "Yes ma'am!" Mahiru said through the door, all that was left from her were her running footsteps.
"Best get home, you have an interesting day ahead of you. I'll have Komaru escort you out." Kirigiri said slightly smiling at me. I nodded and left her office.
I found Komaru at the end of the hall waiting for me. "You ready?" She asked me. I nodded. "Congrats on becoming a member by the way." Komaru congratulates me. I smile at her. "Thanks!"
