**Akela's POV**
My body was falling through the air. I closed my eyes waiting for the impact on the rocks or, hopefully, the water. I could feel my body shrinking and popping and I unconsciously opened my arms. The air brushed under my arms and lifted my now light body. The wind blew through my feathers................Wait! Feathers? I opened my eyes and realized I was hovering over the water. I flapped my arms, which were now wings, and was propelled forward. Strangely, it felt natural to be flying. I flapped my wings catching the wind and soaring over the trees next to the bottom of the waterfall. I felt a dull ache throughout my body starting from the center of my chest pulling me , but I ignored it. Now, I needed to look for a safe place to rest.
**Caleb's POV**
I ran to the top of the waterfall and watched helplessly as my mate fell over the edge. Her large body flipped through the air. I closed my eyes for a brief second, not wanting to watch my only love fall to her death, but I reopened them knowing I needed to know where she went so I could follow her and at least collect her body. I looked back to where a large tiger previously was, but instead spotted a beautiful hawk spreading its wings and flying away. I howled in triumph that my mate was not dead.
I could feel a pull towards the hawk, so I knew that somehow my mate shape shifted from a tiger to a hawk. I had never known that someone could choose what to shift into. My wolf felt pride that his mate was this special. Of course she was always special to us, but she was now unique to the whole shifter population. I was lucky to have her. I know all the other wolves would be lusting after her because she is so beautiful and unique. My wolf growled at that fact.
But, now it would be even harder to catch her since she could fly and I obviously couldn't. But first, how do I get down? I couldn't go down the same way my beautiful mate used. I guess I won't be sleeping tonight.
