{44} A Werewolf Mate

I want to thank everyone for continuing to read my story. I know that some people probably stopped reading it last chapter. I especially want to thank everyone whom commented or voted last chapter. I promise, the story does get better, and it has a happy ending.

**Caleb's POV**

I couldn't believe that Bethany kissed me. She knew that I had a mate, yet she kissed me anyway. She started following me as soon as I left my room to let Akela shower. I tried to ignore Bethany as she followed me from my bedroom to the kitchen. She shouldn't have even been back here in the Alpha's wing.

Bethany watched me slightly as I gathered the supplies to make Akela and I pancakes and bacon. Bethany moved to stand next to me as I cooked the pancakes. I glanced at here when she moved toward me, but otherwise ignored her.

I smirked as I started to smell Akela approach the kitchen. Just her smell made my wolf go wild. Akela reached the door, but just before she pushed it open, Bethany jumped on me and pressed her lips to mine. I didn't have enough time to push her off of me before the door flew open. I stared wide-eyed as Akela froze at the door and her eyes bore into mine. I started to try to explain what was going on, but the door slammed closed before I even got Akela's whole name out.

I tried to run after her, but Bethany stopped me. She grabbed my arm and pushed me into the wall. I knew that I could get passed her, but it would result in her getting injured or killed. I didn't like Bethany, but I didn't want to kill her.

I growled at her to let go of me so that I could go get my mate. I could feel Akela's heart breaking and my wolf begged me to go to her. I tried to call to her, but she blocked me out of her head.

Bethany told me to "let the slut go" causing to me shift out of anger. I shifted to my wolf form and growled at Bethany. I rushed passed her into the hallway and began to follow my mate's scent, but I froze when my dad stepped in front of me. He demanded for me to shift back and tell him what happened to Akela. The whole pack had seen her run out.

When I growled at him, he threw a pair of shorts at me and demanded again that I shift. I had growled again and shifted back to my human form. My dad took me to his office and I paced while I explain the whole story to my father, from Akela's dream to when my father found me. I growled in frustration. I could feel Akela getting farther and farther away.

My father finally let me go and I rushed into the trees in my wolf form. I followed Akela's scent, but I was too late. I came across Tyler lying on the ground, bleeding. Tyler, Akela, Brent, and another werewolf's scents surrounded the area. I followed the three scents to a road where they suddenly disappeared.

Suddenly, I couldn't feel Akela through the bond anymore. I howled to the moon as my heart broke at the loss of my missing mate.

　

　

**Akela's POV**

I awoke the next morning with a start when I heard a door close. My whole body was sore and it took a couple minutes before I could move. When I opened my eyes, I noticed that my head didn't feel as foggy as it did earlier. I sat up and leaned against the wall for support, and faced the person now standing in my room. Brent stood starring at the floor, holding a tray of food.

"I'm sorry," he said.

I just stared at him with watery eyes. My own brother betrayed me, sent me to get raped by my uncle. Brent sighed and looked up at me.

"I knew you my sister the moment I saw you. I never want for you to get hurt. Bardolph told me to find you because you wanted to take over our pack. He gave me a description of you so that I could find you. I knew he was talking about you when I saw you. I told Zach that I refused to take you or hurt you in any way. But Zach told Bardolph, and he threatened to hurt my mate. I just found her; I couldn't lose her.

"Zach paid Bethany to follow Caleb around until you could see them together, then kiss him so that you would run away, hopefully into the forest where he could get you. I guess his plan worked. I swear, I never wanted for this to happen. Bardolph never said he was going to ... rape you."

Tears were now streaming down my face and I spoke the first thing that came to my still foggy mind. "What did Bardolph mean when he said that he would never have gotten me if not for you?"

"From what I've heard, Mom found out that I was sill alive and began searching for me. Bardolph heard from someone that she was questioning him about me. The man told Bardolph where he saw her and they tracked you guys from there. Bardolph sent some wolves to your house to kidnap you, but you weren't there. Our mom was, though, and they killed her. When you came home, you and Caleb killed all but one of Bardolph's wolves and escaped. Later, Bardolph tracked some of the wolves who came back to your house and took a couple of boxes. He followed them back to the compound and then sent me there to get you. He didn't think that he could sneak in and take you without attracting attention with Caleb there."

"Why can't I mindspeak with Caleb? I can't even feel anything through our bond. I couldn't even feel anything before Bardolph..."

"They drugged you so that you couldn't contact anyone of shift."

"Since Bardolph is now my... mate, can he read my mind? What about my bond with Caleb?"

"Bardolph can not read your mind. His bond with you is purely physical. As for you bond with Caleb, its still there but he can't claim you until Bardolph is dead. Now eat up. I don' think you'll be getting more food for a while."

While Brent was talking, he bent down to hand me the tray of food. I stretched my arm out to get it, and I instantly notice that I was naked when I felt the air move around me. I quickly pulled my knees up to my chest to cover myself. Brent sighed and set the food down next to me.

"Can I get some clothes?" I asked. There wasn't even a sheet on the moldy mattress I was sitting on that I could wrap around myself.

"I'm sorry, but Bardolph forbid it. He thinks that you'll be less likely to try to escape if you're naked and can't shift. I'm sorry."

Brent then turned and left. I felt my heart drop even more when I heard the lock slid into placing locking me in that dark room.

"I love you, Caleb," I whispered before eating the food and falling back asleep. 'I knew that food tasted weird,' I thought just before I passed out.
