**Caleb's POV**
I jumped in between my father and my mate trying to protect her. My father would do anything to protect his pack, including hurting his own son's mate. My father lunged at me and we started rolling on the ground, each of us trying to get on top. I hadn't sparred with my dad in a long time and neither of us knew who would win.
My focus was on my dad, but I could still feel my mate getting farther and farther from me. I turned trying to find her, but my dad tackled me from behind, pinning me to the ground and biting my neck. I immediately stopped moving.
I could sense my mate running and my wolf tensed, but I stayed still under my father and alpha. It seemed like years, but was only a few seconds before my dad let go of my neck, stepped away from me, and shifted.
I instantly looked around in search of my mate. I knew she wasn't here, but I still whined when I couldn't find her. 'Akela!' I tried calling through our bond, but I only got silence. I turned toward the woods, but stopped when my father sternly said, "Caleb, we need to talk," I took one more glance sat the trees and whimpered before turning back toward my father and nodded.
My father turned and walked back toward the pack house. I followed glancing warily at the crowd of angry wolves surrounding me. The pack was as protective of their alpha as he was of the pack and they would do anything for him. Thankfully, no one attacked me as I followed my alpha into the building.
He held the door open for me since I was still in my wolf form and we both walked towards his office. "Shift. Now, Caleb" he ordered, his voice eerily calm. My wolf was still to worried about his mate to shift, but I couldn't ignore a direct order from the alpha. I shifted back and sat on the sofa across from the chair my dad was now sitting on.
My father stared at me for a minute before speaking. "I know why you did it," he said surprising me. "I would have done the same thing for your mom. A wolf will always protect his mate, no matter what the cost."
I just stared in shocked silence. I thought for sure that he would give me some kind of punishment for attacking him. "I brought you in here to talk about the other wolf, the one your mate was protecting," he continued, "It's obvious she won't let the wolf go without a fight, and as much as I hate to admit it, I think she would win in a fight. The wolf hasn't done anything except not shift to his human form when I told him to and trespass. He's small and doesn't seem like he could hurt anyone in the pack except the young children. I think, if someone is constantly watching him, we could let him stay."
I thought about it for a moment. My mate already left me to help him when he was in trouble. If we don't accept him into the pack, I might lose my mate. As much as I hated the idea of my mate being around another male wolf, I would do anything to keep from losing her. "I'll take responsibility for him," I told my father reluctantly.
He looked at me, a large grin on his face. "I think the conversation will be good for you," he said.
"My mate would never choose another wolf over me!" I growled.
"Well, yes you are soul mates, but where is she now?" he replied his grin faltering. "You should probably go find them before anything else happens. She may not feel anything romantic for him, but he is still a male werewolf and they're all alone in the woods.
I growled out loud and ran to the door. "Remember, you're responsible for him, so don't kill him," he yelled, his voice fading as I raced down the hall to the exit. I immediately shifted to my wolf form when I stopped outside. I ran to where I last saw Akela before I started fighting with my dad. I quickly found her scent and followed it into the woods.
Her scent got stronger and I could feel her presence as I neared the stream. Soon, I stepped out into the open to the sight of my naked mate pressed up against the other male who was standing in front of me growling. My wolf growled back at him. 'Caleb?' I heard Akela question through our bond.
