**Akela's POV**

I opened my eyes wondering where I was. Looking around, I realized I was in is a tall, sturdy tree. The events from the previous day came flashing back to me. I raised my arms above my head, stretching out all my sore muscles. My body was sore due to my unusual sleeping spot. As I stretched my whole body, I moaned. I looked down to spot a large black wolf staring up at me.

"What do you want?" I asked it sarcastically.

It just cocked its head at me and whined. 'I guess I'm not going down that way,' I thought to myself. I steadied my body on the tree branch and quickly and painlessly shifted into the hawk form I was in yesterday. I took off making sure my wings were clear of the tree branches. Soaring above the forest, I stretched my body in ways I couldn't when I was in human form.

The feeling of freedom and the wind blowing through my wings caused me to shriek in bliss. I was flying in circles trying to enjoy myself and forget about the events of the previous day, so I was completely unaware of my surroundings. All of a sudden, something large blocked the sun. I looked up with only enough time to see the underside of what looked like an eagle. Sharp claws buried in my feathers and tore into my skin. A moment before the impact I tried to turn my body to prevent the attack. This only succeeded in causing the eagle to fly straight into my wing, crushing it at my side. An audible snap pierced the air and pain shot through my body.

I clawed at the eagle's underside, trying to make it let me go. In a brief moment of clarity, I shifted back to my human form. The eagle shrieked in surprise and swiftly flew away. Screaming, I fell through the air. Tree branches scraped my skin. I land on one of my feet and my lower leg snapped. 'What did I do to deserve this?' I thought before blacking out in pain.

*Caleb's POV**

I woke up and stretch my back. I had slept in my wolf form in order to be more alert in case anything happened. My eyes glanced up in the tree where my mate slept last night, and I watched as she stretched her arms above her head, pushing her naked chest out in front of her. My body instantly went hard at the sight. Her moan caused my wolf to whimper out loud.

She turned her beautiful face down to look at me. "What do you want?" I heard her say. 'You,' I thought, and I cocked my head to the side.

My mate sighed and I watched as her beautiful human body contorted into the shape of a large hawk. She flew off the branch, being carful to keep her long wings from hitting the branches as she flew. She shrieked in bliss as she reached the clear blue sky.

I followed my mate from the ground as best I could as she flew in circles above the trees. She was ignoring her surroundings, trying to find some happiness after her long day yesterday. I knew all this because I could feel her emotions through our bond.

I howled out loud as I saw an enormous eagle dive straight towards my mate. She looked up to late as the eagle plunged towards her body. I watched in horror as she tried to scratch the eagle's underside with her claws. Suddenly, she shifted back to her human form. The eagle shrieked and flew away and my mate fell toward the ground. I could hear her crashing into trees and a snapping sound, but whether it was the tree branches or my mate braking, I couldn't tell. I ran toward where her body would land.

I arrived in a small clearing right as my mate landed on the ground. She lay unmoving as I approached. I ran toward her unmoving body and nudged her arm with my snout, and I whimpered and licked her hand. She still didn't move.

I shifted back to my human form because I couldn't do much without hands. I found a slight pulse in her wrist and discovered that her breathing was shallow. I scooped her into my arms. I tried to not cry as I held my unconscious mate close to my naked body. My wolf whimpered in pain.

I carefully scooped my mate into my arms and stood and began walking toward where my pack lived. I knew the general direction of the pack since I had lived and hunted in these woods since I was young. 'Please let my mate be okay,' I thought.
