He had barely touched me before I opened my lips and captured his with unsuppressed enthusiasm while I pushed my free hand through his hair to hold his face against mine, increasing pressure against his elbow to pull him closer towards me. I had waited for this exact moment for a very long time and I wasn't about to waste it. I almost immediately stopped nibbling his lips and pried them open to get access to his moist cavern, pushing my tongue through to play with his. And surprisingly he responded with the ferocity, matching my passion with his. Not only letting me explore his depths but actively delving into mine.
It wasn't until I moved my hand from around his elbow to move towards his torso, brushing against his ribs through the layer of his shirt, when he recoiled slightly at my unexpected touch and moved backward. I followed him as much as I could to continue keeping our mouths very firmly attached but at some point it became impossible without me physically moving over into his seat.
Once we were finally completely detached he moved further back against the door and bowed his head low to avoid looking directly into my eyes.
"That was better than I expected."
He burst into a profuse blush yet he remained silent even though a slight smile had managed to find its way onto his face. But he wasn't about to stick around for my teasing nor he looked too keen on having a more extensive conversation about what just transpired, so he nodded another quick good bye and all but ran into his building disappearing from my view.
To say that I was happy with our progress could not be overstated. I guess someday soon we would get around to talking about it. And since he has managed to thoroughly shine my skills in patience, I am Ok with waiting slightly more before we figure out what the future holds.
So I wasn't really worried when he ignored my messages for the rest of the weekend. I wasn't even concerned that he didn't let me pick him up on Monday morning, nor had he stuck around for me to drive him home that evening. Or talk to me at all during the day. And that trend continued for three whole days.
I had obviously expected this. There was next to zero chance that he wasn't going to freak out about it. The only thing I didn't know was how long the silence and awkwardness would last.
Apparently, not that long.
Wednesday evening I pulled into my parking lot to find Kong waiting outside my apartment building even though less than an hour ago he had completely ignored my offer for a ride home.
"Hey"
"Hi"
"What's up?"
"I ...uh....just thought we needed to talk."
"I agree. You want to come up? We can talk at length."
"No."
"You want to talk here?"
"No, I meant not right now. Not here. Not today."
"Ok. When do you want to talk then?"
"Ummm, maybe Friday? After work? We can go for dinner to the restaurant you really like."
Would wonders ever cease? Kong just asked me out on a date. And for once I was the one struck momentarily speechless where I simply nodded mutely. Yet my eagerness was very clear on my face.
"Okay then. Friday it is. I will see you at work tomorrow."
"Wait! Can I pick you up tomorrow morning?"
"Yeah, sure."
And since we are all about reading the tiny signs Kong has been flashing these past few weeks, I predict that the outcome of the date is going to make me a happy man. Which is going to be a double whammy, since I had one other surprise waiting for him, and hopefully it would be ready by the time our date on Friday rolled around.
For the past few months I had been working towards getting him a promotion both for a job title and a significant hike in salary. And although I would generally have had to simply sign off on any promotion I wanted to hand out, which I have in the past year and a half I have been in my position, my father had very shrewdly noticed I was particularly sweet on Kong and had advised me to make a compelling argument just in case I was blamed for favoritism further down the road.
Although I was very much still planning on breaking the good news about his promotion on Friday evening on our date, I had planned on spending the better part of that day going through all his past paperwork, reports, and reviews. And since I am already unhealthily obsessed with the man, I wager I am going to rather enjoy the last day of my week quite a bit.
So after lunch on Friday I settled behind my desk with a huge stack of papers and folders marked with the name Kong that KC had put together over the pass weeks quite diligently. And I wasn't even half way through the large pile and I already had enough evidence to justify the pay raise I was about to hand out, but I was really not about to stop any time soon. With the combination of reading his brilliant reports of older products over the years which were immensely educational, and the glowing reviews his past managers always seemed to give him I was bursting with pride and rather enjoying my supposed work.
I had just little over an hour to go before we would head out to our planned date and I wanted to take a few minutes to freshen up before what I expect to be a very eventful night. Thankfully, I had only one folder left to get through which was fairly thin.
It was also really old and dusty. In fact when I opened it there was actually a dead spider smushed on the first page. Which also happened to be his offer letter.
Wow! This was precious. This was probably the first file created about him. I am surprised this was actually preserved and KC had managed to even find it. I picked it out from the folder and placed it on my table. I think I am going to restore and frame it. I have a feeling this is going to be a very sentimental document for him. And me. Us.
A very content smile had taken over my face which was suddenly cut short when I noticed another worn out file right underneath with a large stamp of 'Confidential' marked across it.
I had no idea what this was about. What could Kong's file possibly have to make it confidential. And since it was really old, stuffed in the same folder as his hiring documents, it was probably roughly around the same time.
I opened the folder to see there were only two documents. The first one being some legal notice dated about 7 years ago stating that some police case had been withdrawn. That's it. No other details except the name and signature of the lawyer at the bottom of the page.
A full blown frown had taken over my face as I tried to understand what it was that I was reading in this file that was meant to be nothing but information related to Kong. I read that short document multiple times but that was literally all there was to it. I gingerly placed it aside to look over the only remaining sheet of paper in his file hoping there were some answers to what I had read earlier.
It is said that you must be careful what you wish for, cause it might come true, and mine just did. The last document was the police report itself. It was brief. Barely four lines. And all but shattered my world.
