(2) Sonnet: Knowledge & Wisdom

The throne of knowledge lies inside your head
Amid those dusty shelves of memory,
While wisdom hangs upon a fraying thread
That must be earned through breathing history.
For knowledge is but cleverness of art,
A skill to comfort, ease, simplicity,
While wisdom is the knowledge of the heart,
A will to gain through one's stupidity.
But wisdom comes with such a bitter cost,
A price too high, a painful certainty;
What good is wisdom when your future's lost?
So dear is this severe commodity!
      The wisdom I possess came at a price;
      For God's sake, do not give into that vice!
