- chapter six -

  "Eh?? You're [L/N]-san??"

It was 8 August, 7:20 pm. The usual, quiet, ISHIRAN restaurant that has been idling about near Nekoma High was suddenly filled with nostalgic adults. Adults who went through a lot of things together, adults who celebrated the same events, adults who had similar aspirations. They all gathered together to recall the past and laughed at the mistakes they made together. Of course, that also meant laughing at the people they used to be.

That also meant that Sakura was there, acting as bubbly as ever. Luckily for [Y/N], she was sitting at the far end, somewhere where [Y/N] could hardly see her. Then there was Kenma, who quietly chose to sit opposite to [Y/N] despite the men from the class were sitting more towards Sakura.

"Wow!! I could hardly recognise you at all!" Some of the women flocked around [Y/N], admiring her 'glow up'.

"I mean, uh," [Y/N], being the girl who was always ignored in class, wasn't used to them seeming like some petty fangirls. "A lot of things can happen in ten years, right?"

"Yeah, but you used to be so gloomy back then! Your weird [H/L], your miniature posture, and your pale face made you recognisable everywhere! For all the wrong reasons, mind you!"

By now, the entire class' attention had now been pinned on [Y/N]. Even Sakura decided to pause her own conversations and listened in. [Y/N] didn't like being reminded of the past, truth be told. Those days still haunted her. Sudden yet silently.

"To be fair," Kenma decided to cough as a way to interrupt their one-sided conversation. "None of us looked any similar to before."

The women laughed and the men sniggered at his defence. They viewed him like a little knight in shining armour. Admirable, it was. But Kenma was never someone who stood out. So seeing him defend the notorious [Y/N] made their classmates mentally question him.

"True, true," They finally decided to back off. However, to provoke her, one of them dared to utter her trauma in plain sight. "After all, we used to call her the colourless monster!"

The second those words reached [Y/N]'s ears, her blood turned cold. Her mouth was left hanging as the yakisoba she was supposed to eat dropped back into her bowl. 'Colourless Monster'-- The title that stuck to her since she was a child. Since her mother decided to whore herself out onto the many men she met. Since she couldn't see colours.

Oh, how even the slightest implication, much less mention, of those two words scarred her so.

Just when [Y/N] thought the situation couldn't get any worse, her ex-classmates thought it would be the perfect time to hoard her with questions on updates about her life. Why wouldn't they? To see the 'Colourless Monster' turn into a normal, functioning, human? It was like magic. It was as if they were more surprised that she was alive rather than seeing her turn out better than before. Their eyes looked like predators, and [Y/N] was-- has been their prey since high school.

She hate it so fucking much, it hurts.

  "Can you even see colours?

  "Did you lose your virginity?"

  "What's your income like?"

"Do you have a husband already?"

  "Is your mother dead?"

Throughout all the questions, all [Y/N] did was laugh. Laugh and smile. 'It's ten years, [Y/N]. Surely no one would bother you now' was her naive mindset before entering ISHIRAN. Now, all she could think about was going home and curling into her sheets, not caring about those who bullied her. Though the entire class bombarded each other with questions, [Y/N] couldn't handle all the pressure that was given to her at once.
