- chapter eight -

The two lost soulmates stared at the vivid sunset, capturing every moment of seeing the colour for the first time in years. As the clouds slowly flowed by, the birds flying across their eyes, [Y/N] couldn't help but wonder if doing such a sinful act ever felt this good.

And it wasn't long before she snapped back to her senses either.

"Why," She turned her eyes to the man in front of her.

  "WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!"

Her eyebrows furrowed while her teeth clenched. Kuroo, on the other hand, was taken aback by her sudden rage. He was too busy admiring the sunset that he didn't realise the person who made him see colours was about to cut his head off. When he turned around and saw her face, he couldn't reply to her. How could he? How could he even explain himself?

"OI, ANSWER ME, YOU BASTARD," She could feel her eyes starting to water. It was starting to get harder to clearly see his confused expression amongst the tears. "WHY DID YOU KISS ME?!"

Kuroo had to stay silent for a second. His eyes were fixated on her lips, subconsciously wanting to shut her mouth with another kiss. But he couldn't do that. No, he could never. He's a married man. Even if Sakura wasn't his soulmate, he couldn't just--

"I just," He began to speak out his mind. "Really missed you."

His soft and genuine voice somehow managed to cut through [Y/N]'s heart. For a split second, she was convinced that he genuinely did miss her. His usual, obnoxious and teasing voice couldn't be sensed at all. It was instead replaced with the feeling that he had been hiding for ten whole years. And [Y/N] had no idea how to respond to that.

"When I saw you smile," He continued on, his face solemn with his eyes lowering to the ground. "It reminded me of how happy you used to be in high school. You remember, right? When we went out to study, when we went home together, when we made a lot of jokes about--"

"Of course I remember," [Y/N]'s voice was suddenly shaking. She was on the verge of tears. Of course she remembered. Of course she did.

She spent the last 10 years trying to forget about it.

Even though Kuroo knew that he was literally cheating on Sakura, something in his heart kept egging him. Like a tiny voice that kept following around for years but only spoke up the moment he reconnected with [Y/N]. His mind was split between following his mind or following what's right. He didn't have an answer to [Y/N]'s pressing questions.

"I'm.. sorry." was all he managed to muster out. "I just.. my heart- I felt something-"

  "YOU'RE ENGAGED."

Kuroo could not reply back. He knew this, obviously. But in that moment, he didn't care about anything. He just wanted to feel the colors. He wanted to reconnect once more. Something he hasn't felt for the past ten years. And that feeling was so close, yet so far. He was with the right person, but at the wrong moment.

"GET OUT OF MY FACE. NOW."

"I.. just wanted to follow my heart."

Eyes on the floor, he turned his back and walked away.

[Y/N]'s eyes widened. He clearly whispered it to himself, but her sharp ears picked it up. Her mind goes into confusion as she thought about his last words. The sadness she felt in his tone made her question her decision. As if she just wanted to hug him and take back everything she said. To make him feel okay again and feel the colors she once felt ten years ago. But she couldn't do that. She was convinced that what they both just did was wrong on every level.
