Max ran out of his house to catch onto Sam who was already a couple of houses away.
"Sam!"
"I mean, Sir-"

"Max right?" Sam asked.

"Y-Yeah." He was breathing heavily.

"Ok, we're gonna be working on a team so leave the formalities out, for all of us." He gave Max a kind smile

"Ok... Sam," Max paused for a while before blurring Sam's name.

"Much better,"

"Now," Sam paused
"Let's go tell Gelen,"

"Gelen?" Max asked

"The King," Sam said, he wrapped one arm around Max and started walking with him towards the castle, if someone saw them without knowing what's going on they'd say these two are friends since they were born.

"So..." Max broke the silence.

"You just call him Gelen?" Max questioned.

"I knew you'd question that." Sam laughed
"I mean, I've known him for a while so I call him Gelen, so does everyone on the team." He kept making alot of facial expressions as he talked, Max thought power holders normally kept a straight face didn't have that much fun around other people, he clearly was wrong.

"But,"
"He's a bit moody today so I'd praise him, alot," Sam looked at Max trying to make sure he caught that he was very serious.

"Ok." Max swallowed a little too loud.

Moments later they were at the castle's door, Max had never seen a door so big! He always saw the castle from a bit of a distance.
The chiseled pillars and letters on the door were magnificent! Almost magical.
Sam walked up to the guards and nodded to them. Both guards moved towards the broad doors and opened them, and in that moment Max realized that the magical chiseled pillars and the scribbles on the door, the huge doms on every edge of the walls were absolutely nothing compared to the inside.

The door opened only to show a colourful long carpet spread all the way to King's throne, six main pillars were in the room and between each pair of them there's a door, again scribbled with words and symbols.

There they are...

Max's gasp wasn't that loud, but it was loud enough for them to hear it...

Three power holders stood tall inside

James, the water power holder was the closest to Max, his armor was in a slightly dark shade of blue, his sword was stripped to his back almost completely hidden behind his round shield, his broad shoulders were exactly as broad as his shield, his height however didn't suit his body, he wasn't that much taller than Max, which isn't that tall.

Jen, the nature power holder, Max was stunned by the way she stood, she looked to strong, so fierce, if he didn't know the team he'd say she was the leader, if not the king's heir!

She didn't she had two a blade strapped to her legs, but something told Max that she was hiding more weapons in that shining green armor.

Zack, their leader, the one with the biggest sword, he stood one step under the king, his height made it look like he was standing on the same level if not a higher one, his sword was right in front of him with both hands on the tip of the handle, one above the other.

He looked at Max before anyone else, he studied him, his posture, his confidence; however Max didn't notice that until he looked away, it was too late to change the first impression now.

Gelen, the king, the kind hearted king was on his throne holding a metal staff, wearing long a long silver robe with shining golden stripes, it shined so bright fitting the brightness of his staff.

He didn't look that old, even though he was roughly a sixty year old man, his face chiseled, his hair black with shining white stripes, his beard thick and black as the night sky, however it wasn't as long as Max thought it would be, since the king was the only wizard in their kingdom- Max though he'd have a bigger beard, a less chiseled face, or atleast a long pointy hat.

Atleast I got the robe right.
Max thought to himself

"Come closer young boy,"
His voice
Oh god his voice

His voice was so manly, so deep and soothing, one can only imagine how calming it felt to hear him speak.

"Your majesty." Max bowed down awkwardly.
The silence in the room was broke as Gelen started laughing.

Max stood up to look at Sam, whose now barely able to hold his laugh, the only one in the room that didn't even flinch was Zack; he looked like he was sick of their acts

"You really did it Sam," Gelen said
"Good one." He removed a tear from his eyes.

"What's your name?" Gelen is now looking straight at Max.

"M-Max," he stuttered.

"What did he tell you on your way here?" He looked at Sam then back at Max.

"That you were in a bad mood, and that you liked being praised,"
Max said, with his face so red.

"Well, let's fix that," he stood up from his throne and walked towards Max.

"My name is Gelen," he stretched his hand out to Max.
"I don't like being praised, I'm nothing but the one who rules this land, I'm only king when something is wrong," he paused.
"Other than that, I'm just a normal person with an extra privilege of being able to practice magic." He shook Max's hand.
His grip was so tight, so firm

"Well," Sam walked up close to them.
"Max happen's to have that privilege too," Sam said, now all the powe holders are focused on Max, all studying that little boy who came in the room.

"You heard him gentlemen," Gelen looked back at the guards, Max didn't notice the amount of guard in the room before, he was too focused on the power holders that he didn't notice the guards were even there.

"Get the chamber ready!" A pause
"We have a new power holder to test.

The soldiers started walking out of the room in unison, the sound of their stomps could be heard from far far away, Max felt the earth under him shake a little.

"What can you do?" Zack asked getting Max's attention once more.

"I'm not sure yet," he paused.
"For all I know I can use fire,"

"He woke up today to his entire room on fire," Sam said
"I couldn't put it out, I did then it came right back," Sam said
Zack facial expression changed just a little bit, from stiff and strict, to slight amusement, then right back to stiff.

"Maybe you could show us a little?" Jen spoke up.

"I can try," Max walked away from Gelen, he closed his eyes and fists so tight, he knew all he had to do was focus, breath.

Inhale.
Exhale.
Feel it strike within you.
Feel it rushing through your body.
Feel it's warmth.
Feel it's wrath.
Let it go.
Max opened his eyes to see the world in a slight shade of red, he pulled his fist back and punched the air, opening his fist half way through, unleashing a huge line of fire dancing in the air.
Max pulled his back, closing it soaking in the fire once more.
His eyes went back to their normal brown color.

He scanned the room to see their faces, Sam had a slight smile in his face.

Jen was amused, very amused.

Zack had his eye brows both raised, which was the most expressive thing he did almost all day.

Gelen looked proud, so proud

"WOW!" James said
"I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!" James said, he was too excited he sounded like a young child, even though he wasn't.

"Thank you," Max smiled proudly, he finally found his calling, finally did what he always wanted to do.

But there was one step for him to reach that what he truly wished for... the power test.
