The next morning I find myself absentmindedly staring at my forearm thinking about the glowing symbol, with a shake of my head I get up and get started with my day.
Sean waves as he sees me exit the room and I slightly wave back, still in a daze. The rest of the walk all became a blur...
During class I find myself spacing out a lot and looking out the window while doodling on my notebook.
Sean seems to notice because he softly calls out to me. "Pst.... Mel."
"Hhm?" I say still somewhere far away.
"Class is about to be over."
"What?" I say turning to face him. When I look down at my notebook I notice the same symbol drawn throughout the pages.
What is this?
The bell rings shaking me out of my thoughts but as I'm about to put my stuff away Sean gasps.
"Woah, Mel did you draw that?" He says taking the notebook and examining it.
"Um yeah, I guess so." I say with a slight shrug.
"Do you know what it is?"
"Not really but I saw it in my dream last night."
"Oh, that's cool." Sean says with a small smile, then as someone walks outside the classroom Sean grabs his backpack and without another word he walks out.
Confused, I frown coming back to my senses. "Sean, wait up!" I say as he rushes out of the classroom. I quickly shove everything in my backpack and run after him only to see him talking to Damien who looks down at the ground deep in thought and nods.
Then he looks up and notices me standing there watching them both. He opens his mouth to say something I turn around and walk in the opposite direction as fast as I can.
After yesterday I don't know why but I feel weird. I want to talk to him but at the same time something tells me that the feeling is not mutual.
I slightly jump when Alex puts his arm around me pulling me closer. "What's up?" He asks and let out a relieved sigh.
"Perfect timing." I say with a small smile.
"Why, what's going on?"
"Nothing, I just didn't want to walk alone to my next class." I say giving him an innocent smile.
"Well, I've never seen you look this happy to see me so I'm guessing you are trying to avoid someone." He says as we stop to put our things in the locker.
"No, of course not." I say, my voice slightly raising at the end.
"Oh really cause Damien is walking this way." Alex says with a smirk.
"What?!? Really?" I say hugging my books tighter.
"No, he's not." Alex says letting out a laugh and tilting his head back. "I just wanting to see if I was right."
"Ugh. You're so mean." I say punching him slightly. "Let's go to class."
"Yes ma'am." Alex says says doing a mock salute.
As I take a seat on my desk, Alex placing his hands on top, leaning on it and forcing me to look up at him.
"So why are you avoiding him?" Alex asks raising an eyebrow.
"Well....to be honest...." I say pausing, "I'm not entirely sure."
"Wow, that's just....weird."
"I guess I feel embarrassed?" I say and let out a sigh, running my hand through my brown waves. "I don't know why I'm avoiding him."
"Well, sorry to break it to ya, but you have next period together." He says.
"Why are you my friend?" I say crossing my arms and kicking his chair slightly.
I don't know why but this period seemed to go by a lot faster, and my stomach turns as I walk towards the locker room to get ready for gym class.
The coach blows his whistle indicating to gather around. "Alright." He says crossing his arms. "You know the deal kids. Run a few laps and then head to the gym to get started with the activities. Now go!" He says blowing his whistle and we start running.
"Careful Melody," a guy says, "there's a poodle of water there, we wouldn't want you to drown." He says with a smirk.
"Haha very funny." I say shaking my head.
"The last one to make it will have to pick up the equipment!" The coach yells and everyone starts running faster.
As I run one of the guys trips me and I slide across the floor feeling a sting on my palm.
As I look up I glare at them and watch as they go farther and farther away laughing.
Wiping my palms I stand up and watch as Damien looks back at me from somewhere in the front.
With a huff I resume my jog and make it to the end in last place.
Panting I watch as everyone heads into the locker room to change while I watch from the bleachers as they practice.
