Miyu was born in the ugliest part of the country, a part of the country, where criminals, prostitutes, and people that were not accepted in society lived. she was born in the winter, a small and fragile thing, barely half the size of a normal baby. Her mother had fallen into depression after giving birth and died shortly after. Her father, not accepting her mother's death, put the blame on her and started to abuse her.
At the age of 8, Miyu was beaten horribly and left to die on the streets by her so-called father, and was then picked up by an old man who she later called 'grandfather'. Before then, she was used to the darkness on the streets, when she was 15, she had already killed more than 30 people. when she was 16, an old man came up to her. she didn't understand why and ignored him. he told her that he wanted to adopt her, her? she had scoffed at the idea and walked off, but then, every day, persistently, for 5 months, he would come and talk to her, ignoring the fact that she never talked back. finally, one day, she gave in, in her 16 years of life, he was the only one that bothered to even talk to her.
then one day, she was rounded up by a gang, she had killed 25 of them before she fell, the leader pulled her up by her hair and put a knife to her throat. Miyu remembered how when she had almost given up, he came. He didn't have the usual smile on his face, instead, he looked outraged.
but, when he made eye contact with her, he smiled, "don't worry," he said,
"it's time to go home."
when Miyu woke up, she was in a bed, he was sitting next to her, with soup in his hands.
"oh? someone's up." he chuckled and handed her the soup. "drink up."
Miyu couldn't understand why he took her in, and when she asked him, he smiled and patted her head.
"Maybe because...you reminded me of someone I knew."
she didn't understand why he looked so sad, but nevertheless, she stopped asking.
Miyu was not used to the orphanage, to say the least, she was used to being alone, to fighting for her life, to not trusting anyone. But everything changed when he took her home. After a year, he brought home more children that he found. At first, she hesitated, not sure whether or not to accept them. But soon, all of those emotions melted when one of the small children came up to her and called her 'big sis'.
Warmth, happiness, family.
she changed. Her torn, cold, heart was sewed back together piece by piece. She learned more things in the orphanage than she ever did in her 16 years of life.
"An, you've changed." She remembers him saying, she paused from what she was doing and looked back at the old man who was sipping on tea. "How so?" she asked, resuming to her chores.
"You've gotten more humane." she looked at him, the confusion must have been evident in her eyes, because he laughed and explained, "When I took you in, you were so...distant, is that the word? nevermind that, but, you didn't have an ounce of emotion in your eyes. I remember I saw you kill a man once, there was nothing in your eyes, it was like staring into a doll." She sat down next to him, he patted her head, "it seems like I was talking about another person compared to you now." he seemed to be caught in between memories, "you seemed...so much like her...I couldn't leave you...not like I did to her..."
"Grandfather..."
he smiled, "An~ I wanna eat cookies!"
Miyu's mouth twitched, she looked at the figure who now had small pink flowers floating around him, and sighed, "I'll go get some." She mumbled.
"Yay~"
