Chapter 2 • S-Class

The day goes by fast. People leave for missions, others come back from them, and the people left out of these categories are going wild in the main hall as usual. The whole time, though, I sit down at my usual spot and watch the chaos unfold in front of me, and denying the offer of a glass of beer from Makarov. After an hour or so, he finally gives up, and I sigh in relief.

Later that night, multiple people start leaving the guild to go back to their homes. I'm always the second to last one out, since I always talk to Mira as she washes the dishes.

"I'm glad you're back, Elzie. I'm sure everyone is," she tells me, her back facing me and drying the now clean plates. "Even though you usually leave for a few days, most of that time spent getting to the mission then doing it, you leave often."

I think about what she said for a while. "I know," I say simply. "I'm planning to go on a mission tomorrow."

"But why? Can you stay?" Mira asks softly. "You need to rest. We don't see a lot of you. It saddens us."

I yawn loudly and I put my arms on the table. I shake my head lightly, rubbing my eyes. "No, it's not a good thing, isn't it? I should be with my family more often. I'm acting as bad as Laxus," I admit. Mira looks at me with her fatigued blue eyes.

"Elzie, you aren't like Laxus, not in the slightest. You treat us like family, you love Fairy Tail. And we love you. Don't run away from us every chance you get." Her eyes become serious, but sympathetic at the same time. "What happened then won't happen again." She assures me.

I nod. After a few seconds I stand up from my seat and walk towards the door. "I have to go. See you, Mira."

"Bye Elzie," she says with a soft voice. She waves.

I leave the guild and walk into the cool, still night. A beautiful, beaming moon flies above me, illuminating the sky. Everyone is in their homes, making the streets quieter than usual.

"Eek!" I hear from one of the homes on my right, and my head jerks towards that direction. That sounded like Lucy, I say to myself. Maybe I'm just hearing things.

I continue to walk to my own apartment, and when I get there, I quickly run up the stairs and enter my room, turning on the light. Exhausted, my body flops onto my bed, which has no door to separate itself from the main room. I don't bother to turn off the light or wash up. It was a tiring day, anyways. Gradually, I drift off into a deep sleep.

The day goes a lot slower than yesterday. Everyone and everything is quiet. I walk up to the mission board, and I sigh, hearing Mira's voice in my head.

Don't run away from us every chance you get.

"I won't," I say to myself. At least, I'll try not to. I look for a mission that pays well and is within Magnolia Town, so I'm not far from the guild. I rub my drowsy eyes when a familiar voice speaks to me.

"Are you okay?" Nab asks me, standing in the same place as always. "You seem rather indecisive."

And I am. He probably notices me picking up and putting down mission posters continuously. But I'm thinking hard. Should I even go on another mission? Even though I am going on one that's close to my family, am I still running away? I should take a break. Should I? I wonder.

However, all I do is roll my eyes. "Look who's talking," I snap. "Pick a mission and go! You're wasting time."

"No I'm not," he snaps back. He puts his fists on his hips rather heroically. "I'm waiting for the perfect mission for me, one only I can do."
