Chapter 3 • They did what?

"They did what?" I ask in disbelief. I feel my heart skip a beat in my chest.

"They took the poster of the mission. It's against the rules," Erza spits out. The expression on her face becomes frightening and cold, making even me shudder inside. "I'm going to kill them," she promises.

"Which one did they take?" I ask Makarov. Is this what they were planning yesterday when I left them? If I stayed near them, would I have been able to stop this? Is it my fault? My mind explodes with all of these thoughts.

"The one for Galuna Island," Erza answers for him.

My eyes widen in shock. Galuna? The island full of demons? They could have taken any S-Class mission; why would they have chosen that one?

Natsu... I think to myself. That's the only solution.

"Natsu... he was probably the one who took the flyer," Erza explains, as if she read my mind. "And Lucy came along. We tried to get Laxus to force them back, but Gray volunteered instead..."

"Well that didn't work, did it?" I mumble to myself. I walk away from the scene and turn my head back at my three fellow mages. "Let me go talk to Laxus. Maybe I can force him." They nod.

I look up at the staircase for the S-Class mages only. I haven't been up here for a while, even though I am permitted too. It's lonely there; two of them are always working, one of them doesn't speak to us, and the other two don't usually go up there as well. I get to the top, where I see the mission board and the middle area empty, as if someone took a mission flyer. I remember that being the exact place where the Galuna Island mission was. I was thinking about taking it to complete a mission that will challenge me. But after my talk with Mira yesterday night, I didn't. Was that a mistake? Should I have taken it when I had the chance?

I search for Laxus in the hallway, and I easily spot him sitting at a table, looking satisfied by the lightning he is creating in the palm of his hand. Admiring your strength, huh? I say to myself. You haven't changed a bit.

"Laxus," I say, loud enough to get his attention. I get straight to the subject. "You have to go get Natsu and the others back."

"And why should I?" he asks, an evil smirk forming on his lips. "I'd let those brats die out there for all I care."

I clench my left hand and slam it on the table Laxus is sitting at, causing it to split into two below my fist. The furniture falls to the ground with a large crash, causing me to hear some whispers from below. I don't care though; I'm furious. I don't want to play around at the moment when my comrades' lives are at stake. This is one of the only times I lashed out like this before. His face remains cool, but his eyes tell another story. It is something about him I only notice, not even Makarov could have. I dealt with the same expression of his many, many times before.

"Laxus, I do not care if you hate Natsu, or Lucy, or Fairy Tail, or Makarov. I don't care if you hate me, but these are your comrades we're talking about! Fairy Tail is your home, whether you like it or not! And we all love you, whether you like it or not. So it's your job to protect your family." I sigh, then say quietly, "Whether you like it or not."

After my long speech, all Laxus does is guffaw. "Look at this! You finally show some emotion around here!" He smirks even more wickedly than before. "But I'm not helping Natsu, though. I hope they all die. Then, my guild will have less space contained by idiotic weaklings."
