Chapter 13 • Do what you have to!

The halls are consumed by darkness as I exit from a different opening than where I came in from. I feel the walls which are made of a rigid and cold marble. This area of the temple is much brighter than the rest; it has more light entering from the ceilings and from the dancing flames on each individual candle. I cough and it makes my chest sting, most likely from the impact of falling down numerous times. I glance up at the windows and I notice it's almost complete night, the full moon shining. Gulping, I rush even more than I was before, worrying tremendously. It is almost time for the moonlight ceremony, and I still haven't even found Deliora yet. I know that I have to go about this quickly and with reason.

Finally, I enter a more opulent area covered in ice. It's terribly cold inside as I can easily see my breath as a fog with each one I take. My teeth click together uncontrollably, and friction is created between my arms and the hands that are rubbing them to keep me warm. Wishing I did not have to tear my sweater into shreds, I tuck my fingers into the sleeve of the opposite arm, using them as temporary gloves.

I hear a ruckus going on somewhere near, the noise consisting of yells of hexes across the hallway. I can easily tell Gray's in there, meaning that his fellow pupil Lyon is in there as well. I close my eyes to try and detect the moonlight source again, concentrating deeply on my senses. I feel the stupendous amount of power not so far away. I take a deep breath in and out, following exactly where the moonlight is coming from.

As I draw near the battle, I hear a more heated discussion instead of ice clanking against ice. All movement has practically stopped until I feel a tremendous collection of energy. This isn't moon drip! I exclaim in my head. What is this? Who's accumulating all of this strength?

"Iced Shell!" I hear.

The power becomes significantly stronger; the force is so large that it makes me fall down to the ground from it's impact. A mist of white wind exits the arena, the location we are in getting colder and colder by the second. I repeat the person's voice in my head. My eyes widen in absolute fear as I know exactly who is casting the fatal magic.

It is Gray.

My legs immediately stand up and I run towards them, my eyesight covered by the mist. I become dizzy as the horror of him doing this to himself is extreme. Forgetting about my mission in those few seconds, all that matters to me is to save Gray.

Erza initially said that only Gray will take this Lyon on. I won't allow it. He can't die like this in my presence.

Because he is a fellow Fairy Tail mage.

My feet slip on the ice forming on the grounds as I head down the hallway. My hands grip to the icicles on the wall for support, my arm sleeves covering my fingers so they don't freeze. As I am halfway to my destination, I feel a devastating pain in my back, the point of a sword scraping across it. I yell in agony and I fall down, watching the blood from my back trickle on the ice below me. Tears stream down my eyes as I pant excessively, as I cannot get up to save Gray. Through them, I scream, "Gray! Please! Don't you dare kill yourself!" my voice is cracks in between breaths as the pain becomes worse and worse. Helplessness floods my brain and heart as seconds and seconds are going by, and he is slowly getting closer to ultimate death.

It's getting harder and harder to breathe as the ice presses my chest and blood continues to slowly drip out of my body. I lift up my head so that my voice box isn't squished, and I holler out continuously. Although, I doubt he can hear me from the sound of the wind and ice. At the same time, I wait in angst for the person who came and attacked me to finish the job.
