You're rivals
Requested
"Thanks for listening, this has been the Eddie Brock report." You felt a smirk appear on your face at the sound of a familiar voice, looking over your shoulder you stop in your tracks and see none other than you're favourite reporter."Ever get tired of that old saying, Eddie?" You ask as your walk towards him and his camera man who was packing up, Eddie visibly stiffens at the sound of your voice.
"L/N." Eddie says as he turns with a obviously forced smile, which only made you smirk widen. You and Eddie were had a difficult relationship, you didn't necessarily hate each other but you didn't really like each other either, it was purely business your relationship with him. Eddie was a rival reporter.
You both seemed to have the same numbers on your stories which turned into a unspoken competition between you two."What's this report on huh?" You ask with a tilt of your head as you cross your arms, Eddie simply rolls his eyes at you and turns to walk away.
"You'll have to wait and see like everybody else." Sighing at the answer you jog in front of him and stand in his way, causing him to stop and patiently wait for your usual annoying comment.
"A little birdie told me that Carlton Drake wants one of us to cover his new research project." You smile and poke his nose knowing he hates it when you do that. "The only question is.. who's gonna report it." Eddie smiled at you again and pat your shoulders.
"You and I both know it's gonna be me." He said and walked away.
"I wouldn't bet on it, Brock!" You shout out after his retreating figure.

"Wait what?" You ask as you look up from your desk and to your boss.
"I heard Eddie Brock's been fired, so you're now the city's top reporter." You felt your whole body stiffen, this is news you've been waiting to hear for months but hearing it out loud felt.. off.
Strangely you didn't jump out of your seat and celebrate, you sat there, wondering why Eddie was fired. Slowly rising from your seat you turn to your fellow workers who waited excitedly for your reaction.
"I have to go." Is all you said and left.

Taking a shakey breath you slowly lifted your hand and knocked on his door, after a little bit of digging you had come to the conclusion that Eddie was fired due to Carlton Drake, apparently Eddie brought up apparent illegal human testing and that pissed Drake off.
"I'm coming." You heard Eddie mumble through the thick apartment door. You had to admit, eddies new place was a piece of shit, but it was probably the best he could afford.
Suddenly the door opened, shyly smiling up to him, Eddie rolled his eyes at the sight of you and went to close the door in his face, quickly shoving your foot in the doorway you pressed your hand against the door. "Wait!"
"What do you want, Y/N?" Eddie asked clearly not wanting our normal banter, instead of saying something snappy in response you look down and sigh.
"I.." you began to say but couldn't find the words. You knew you probably looked like a tool, how were you supposed to speak to him? Without reporting or work you didn't really know much about him.
"Did you come here to gloat? Listen, Y/N I don't want to he-"" would you like to go out to dinner?" Eddie's mouth shut immediately, as your own eyes widened.
Why the he'll did I say that? You thought as you looked down to your shoes.
"What?" Eddie asked, clearly not expecting and probably thinking he misheard you.
"Would you like to go to dinner.. with me. I didn't come her to gloat, I mean yeah I'm the most popular reporter now but it doesn't mean.." you pause and look away in embarrassment. "We can't be friends? I know we never got along before but I feel like we could give it a chance.. I don't know I feel like you need a friend right now." You continue to ramble, only to be stopped but Eddie lifting his hand indicating for you to shut the hell up.
"I'd actually like that." He responded with a smile.
