Rescue Delayed

ELENA

For a moment my heart stopped beating. I watched as Nova vanished into the earth in front of me,with Eskarina falling with him. Without a moments hesitation,we all made our way toward the gaping hole in the ground.

Eskarina's screams echoed from the depths of the pit.

My chest began to ache,I couldn't breathe.

Nova...Nova...

"NOVA!!!"

"Holy Shit!"

"Are they okay?!"

Chatter erupted all around me.

"We have to get down there. We have to see if they're okay."

"I'm part ape,I could try climb down there?" Tyrese suggested.

Sven shook his head. "Not a good idea. We'd be losing more units. Most likely the cave where the Revenant is also leads to wherever they've fallen. Its just a guess but it'll have to do."

"Svens right." Pauline said. "Besides,the edges of those walls are way too sharp. You'd fall in and we'd lose you as well."

I grabbed Tyrese by the shoulder,pulling him toward me. "I do not care how fucking dangerous it is,you're going down there. As your General I am ordering you to get down there and make sure Nova is okay!"

"Guy's..."

"Didn't you hear? I'd fall!"

"And I don't care! You're going down there Tyrese!"

"Guys!"

"Elena calm down."

"Calm down?! Calm down?! Nova just fell down a fucking pit! He could be dead! We need to make sure he's okay!"

"GUYS!"

"WHAT AMAANI?!"

"Crisingr is missing."

I looked around, not phased too much by the fact that some member of our team was missing. Nova was missing, and could very well be dead. That was the only thing of importance at that moment.

"We need to find him Elena."

"You're right. So Tyrese,get climbing down there."

"I was talking about Crisingr. If he's gone, he can say a lot about our barracks, our city, he knows too much to simply let him escape."

"Then we kill him."

"That would be going against Nova's orders. Do you want that? If Nova's alive-"

"He is alive"

"Don't you think he'd be dissappointed with you when he learns you lost a member of his team? Nova must have kept Crisingr alive for a reason. He'd want you to find Crisingr over finding him." Amaani said.

My fists clenched tightly. Nova was more important than some...idiot elven prisoner.

Regardless...Amaani had a point. Nova would be dissappointed if I lost Crisingr.

Fuck it. Nova's fine. We'll find the bastard,then get right back to finding Nova.

"Fine. Fine! Let's just find the elf,then get right back here."

"Look," Pauline said,kneeling next to a footprint in the floor, which went in the opposite direction of where we were,leading back into the darkness of the wood. "These tracks are still fresh."

"That's one good thing about this fog. The humidity has made it rather easy to follow him."

Pushing past Sven,I started following the tracks.

We'd find Sven,then Nova would be our top priority right after. To hell with the Revenant in the cave.

As long as he was safe,I didn't care if the mission ended as a  failure.

Nova...you better be alive when I find you.
