At this rate, you would've rather eaten trash and die from food poison rather than having to spar against Annabeth, who not only deems you her enemy but would gladly prefer you dead.
All around you, the campers in the arena gathered excitedly. It was the Annabeth vs. (Y/n) show all over again: The sequel. The blessed child vs. the unwanted newbie. Hell, everyone was chatting away making bets over who would win.
You rolled your eyes, claiming your luck. Between you two, there was no doubt everyone was cheering for Athena's daughter. Out of habit, your fingers went up to your neck and grazed the cold metal of the necklace that you wore. It was enchanted, so only could see it for what it truly was. Others would think you were just scratching your neck due to its invisibility. But nonetheless, it was your good luck charm.
I'll only use it if I need it desperately. You reminded yourself in a desperate attempt not to tear the necklace off and stab the smug athenian in the arm. You twisted the chain that hung as a cord around your neck as you waited for Annabeth's next call.
"Well?" The blonde asked, rather amused. "No weapon?"
"I don't need it." You answered coldly, stuffing your hands inside your pockets. The metal around your neck was buzzing, sensing your faint anger. You tried to steady your breathing just as Daphne had used to tell you back when you were younger. You had enough of Annabeth taunting you. From the very moment you stepped foot into the pavillion, you could tell that she didn't like you and the fact that you tried to get closer to Percy caused a misunderstanding and made things worse than it was. She wouldn't believe you, but the clear proof of who you are were your eyes. Your real eyes.
Annabeth laughed and spun her blade by twisting her wrist in a full 360 degree angle. "Someone lend her a blade...that is, if anyone is willing to lend her one."
The kids in the arena shifted uncomfortably on their places, staring at one another asking a silent question. It was already clear no one was going to lend you one. No one in camp liked you due to Annabeth's influence.
"I said I don't need it." You sighed in defeat. You considered taking off your necklace, but then again seeing Annabeth's smug face crumble when you defeat her with your own hands satisfies you more.
"Alright, then." Annabeth smirked, standing at ready. "Then don't mind if I—"
"Wait." Called out a voice from within the crowd. Nico stood and gave Annabeth a pointed glare as he walked through the clusters of students beneath him.
"Nico." You breathed out, startled as he walked closer towards you. The smell of mint and fries shifting through the breeze.
He gave you a faint, barely recognisable smile as he handed you his sword. "Take it. You may think you don't need it, but you will."
You nodded wordlessly and took the hilt of the sword in your hands. A balanced blade. It fit perfectly well into the palms of your hands. You wielded it, trying the fit. You couldn't help but smile gratefully. The darkness inside the blade seemed to suck in the cold.
"Don't get me wrong, I'm lending this to you because the Stoll brothers are looking extremely stressed out over there." Nico leaned down, lowering his voice as he subtly pointed towards the Hermes kids.
You raised your brow, "Oh, yeah? Not because you were worried?" You teased lightly, a small smile playing across your lips.
From the corner of your eyes, you could see Connor and Travis look on worriedly as they sat down on the dirt. You smiled, knowing full well that they can't anger Annabeth even for you. Even Percy, who sat next to them, looked unsettled as he looked back and forth his girlfriend and you. Your heart warmed, despite the overwhelming sadness you feel when you see him.

"Percy?" You called out hesitantly to the teenaged boy with dark hair and sea green eyes.
The boy turned, smiling. "Yes?" He asked as he looked down at you.
Your eyes widened and your mind went slack. You had now completely forgotten what your errand was. Your blood turned cold. and your heart leaped from your chest. He's grown but it was him, it couldn't be a lie. Without meaning to, your legs worked for you, sprinting down the lane as the tears flowed endlessly from the corner of your eyes.
"It's you. Oh gods, I missed you." You cried as you threw hands around his neck, pulling him close in a hug.
"Whoa!" Percy struggled, confused on what to do.
"Oh! I'm so sorry." You laughed awkwardly as you let him go. Your eyes never leaving his face. "You've grown...taller."
Percy kept his smile but looked uncertain as he glanced around the pavillion, watching the stares that were being given towards you both. "Excuse me, but—"
"Percy!" Annabeth called from behind him, her smile fading as she sees you clinging onto the hem of his shirt. "Who...Who is she?"
Your face brightened as you opened your mouth to reply, but Percy beat you to it and what you heard shattered the light in your eyes.
"I don't know. I've never seen her in my life."
————————
You swallowed back the hot tears that were threatening to spill to your cheeks and bit your lip from curling into a bitter smile. You took a deep breath in and looked Nico straight in the eye. "Thank you." You glanced at Annabeth, who was giving Nico a skeptical look, your pulse burning in anger. "Now, if you don't mind. I have an athenian ass to kick."
