Can we trust him?

The car ride was very quiet. It bothered me a little. I did'nt like the silence. Except I was asleep but not now. Whenever it was too quiet, I began to hear people's thoughts. And they were getting louder by the minute.,,Could you turn up the radio, please?",I asked and looked at Dick. He was the driver and the driver always chose everything.,,No.",he said and stared at the road.,,Don't be like that. A little music never hurt nobody.",Mal meant because she knew what I wanted to avoid. The thoughts and voices hurt the louder they got and before I would reveal my powers by mistake, I'd rather listen to music or talk about stuff.,,Music would be great.",Rachel quietly spoke up. Dick sighed annoyed.,,Fine.",he said and turned up the radio. The voices softened until they finally fell silent. I smiled and could relax a little. Maybe, it wasn't such a long ride?

Some hours later
We were in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. Following a road which lead us to a little diner.,,Thank god!",I mumbled as Dick was driving there to find a parking spot. My stomach growled.,,Hungry?",Mal asked amused.,,Very funny.",I replied and we left the car after Dick had parked. We all walked inside the diner and sat down in two booths. Mal and I were sitting behind Dick and Rachel.

A waitress came to us and asked us what we wanted.,,Just a coffee for me.",Mal told her.,,A slice of the apple pie and coffee, please.",I said and the waitress noted everything before walking back to the kitchen.,,Want a hot chocolate or something?",I heard Dick asking Rachel.,,Just coffee. Black.",was her answer. I didn't care if she drank coffee or not. It was her decision and not mine.,,I bet they have marshmallows.",Dick said and looked at the waitress which had poured him a cup of coffee.,,I'm not a kid. Ok?",Rachel replied and looked at him. Oouuu...Tell him girl! I smiled amused at her statement.,,ok. Same for the lady.",Dick told the waitress and I had to hold back my laughter. Mal didn't care and just laughed at that. 

We got our coffees and my slice of pie after Dick and Rachel had got their coffees.,,So? How's the pie?",Mal asked me and took a sip of her coffee. I had began to eat the pie. I just nodded as an approval. Then I looked at Mal.,,Everything ok?",I asked.,,Yeah..It's just that it's weird, you know? I mean I had tried to avoid him as much as I could and now I have to stay with him to help Rachel.",Mal answered quietly. I nodded and grabbed her hand.,,You still got me, right? I'm here to help too as much as I can. And if he's gonna be a dick, then let him be one.",I told her and the pun was intended. We both laughed at the pun I made.,,You're unbelievable.",Mal laughed.,,I know.",I said and drank my coffee. We didn't listen to the conversation Dick and Rachel had until Dick said something quite interesting.,,We're gonna see some old friends of mine. They're safe.",Dick told Rachel. Which friends? Friends from Gotham? Or others?,,They'll give us a place to lie low for a second, get our heads together, figure out what to do next.",Dick added. Great... I looked at Mal as if I was asking her about the friends Dick was talking about. But she shrugged.

,,You're scared. I get it. But sometimes there's no time to be scared.",Dick said. As a hero or vigilante, there really was no time to be scared. But we were all scared sometimes. There was nothing, you could change about that.,,Hey. No one gonna get you. Ok? I promise.",He promised her. Could he really promise her that? There was always a chance of her getting taken.,,Where else am I going anyway?",Rachel replied. We finished our coffees and then paid before walking back to Dick's car. After everyone got in, our ride continued....

We drove for what felt like days until Dick decided that we should stay the night at a motel. Rachel and him would be sleep in a room and Mal and I in another.,,Interstate 80 Motel.",I read the sign.,,I'll check in for us too.",Mal said to me. I nodded and stayed with Rachel while dick and Mal walked to the reception to check in and get the keys.

,,So you can read minds?",Rachel asked me. I laughed slightly.,,Yeah...not that great though. I mean not always.",I answered. There was no way that I could lie to her anyway.,,Does that mean that you get headaches a lot?",Rachel inquired.,,I used to have really bad headaches. But once you learned how to control your powers, it's not that bad anymore.",I told her and wrapped my arms around my body. It was cold!,,Do you think that I'll be able to control it?",she said and looked at her feet. She was doubting herself. That I knew without reading her mind.,,Hey. Don't say that. You just need some help and then you're gonna be able to control it.",I assured her and smiled.,,You really think so?",she replied.,,I know so.",I meant and then Mal and Dick came back. Mal and I went to our room which was next to Dick's and Rachel's.

Mal and I went inside and I walked towards the bed where I sat down.,,What did you and Rachel talk about?",Mal asked while I took off my jacket and shoes.,,Nothing much. She's doubting herself about controlling this evil side of her.",I told her and Mal nodded. She sat down on a chair.,,I'm gonna head out with Dick and get some pizza. What toppings do you want on yours?",Mal inquired.,,Pepperoni and jalapeños.",I answered her. She nodded and then there was a short silence.,,Can I ask you something?",I asked.,,Of course. You can ask me anything.",Mal meant.,,Can we trust him? Dick, I mean. I'm just worried about Rachel. She really likes him and wants him to help her.",I asked and looked at Mal. She sighed.,,I don't know. I mean he could be lying and leave us if he wanted to. Let's just hope that he has changed.",Mal replied and I nodded.

Suddenly there was a knock on the door.,,Mal? You're comin'or not?",Dick asked. I sighed. It was just him.,,See you later?",I inquired.,,Yes. Keep an eyes on Rachel.",Mal said and left the motel room. I just sat there on the bed and hoped that Dick wouldn't leave Rachel and us alone.
