The Final Race

It's going to be so hard telling the girls about the death of their grandfather , Florence's dad, they even preferred him to my own father ,I even preferred him, a very lovable man, I really don't know how I am going to do this , I just took a deep breathe, holding my wife by the waist down the stairs to sit with the girls in the living room, this is it.

"Girls, good evening"

"Just get to it dad, we know something's wrong " Rushelle said.

"It was really hard for me to take in, even worse for your mother" I took a deep breathe and looked at my wife, she gave me that go on, you are doing well look.

"Uh, hello ? " Stephanie said

"So today, I was called by Granny Fox, your grandmother also the mother of your mother, that Granddad Fox died early this morning.

I closed my eyes, a loud cry was heard , Olivia was already on a roll crying her eyes out, Rushelle ran up to her room, Stephanie just starred at the marble floor.

I ran towards my daughters

"Girls, it's really not going to be easy for anyone at this particular point, all of you can't cry and not expect me tok, we need to be there for your mother and also your grandma, so please be strong"

"Your right dad, I'll try" said Olivia wiping what seemed to be a year from my eye , i didn't even know when. That came out.

"Mum, come over here" said Stephanie

My wife walked over

"Family hug? " whispered Olivia, we all hugged and I felt an arm army back, my eldest daughter all red with swollen eyes, she joined the moment, i felt the heat from their tears.

That wasn't so bad I thought, although it hurt really bad deep inside .

"You girls go to your room and get your work done, life has to go on, your mother and I will be out for the night, curfew by ten for everyone, am I clear ?"

"Yeah, whatever " said Olivia

"Yes dad " said Stephanie

"No, where are you guys going ?" Asked Rushelle

The one daughter I have that always complicates things,

"We are going to see your grandma, and no you cannot come "

"But nothing, it's a school night, don't you have a test or something tomorrow?"

"Ugh. Have fun and tell grandma I love her" said Rushelle

"Me too" said Olivia still snobbing.

"Me three " said Stephanie

I could feel the coldness in the room, this isn't a Smitn household, I wonder how long it would take for things to get back to normal, the girls all went upstairs.

My wife looked at me and gave me a thumbs up, I walked towards her, gave a very big hug , played with her black long smooth hair , smelled like wild strawberries , I said " don't worry , everything will be alright,I promise ."
