"I don't know what you're talking about." she said.
"I know he's a cop too, too much of a coincidence that he shows up here. I knew it, ratita." I said, making her glare at me.
"You can't . . ."
"Stop staring at me." I growled.
Brian and I kept staring at each other but I noticed Monica staring at him as well. He wouldn't take his eyes off of me though. Monica was half freaked out, but her smile was cool and confident as she bit into a strawberry and waved at Carter. As soon as he saw Carter, Brian started to stand up.
"No, no, no. Sit down." he said, throwing the package on the table.
"Nice Ferrari you got in the driveway." Brian said, still looking at me.
"I'm glad you like it." Carter said with his sarcastic smile.
"It is a pretty car." I said, making him laugh.
"I hear the two of you have history." Carter said.
"Yeah, we do." Brian replied.
"You just had to open your big mouth, didn't you?" I asked him, shaking my head.
"It sounded like something interesting."
"You're an ass, you know that."
"Darlin', will you hold that?" he asked Monica, opening the "package".
"We did all that for a damn cigar?" Roman angrily asked.
"No, you did that for a job you idiot." I said.
"Do you really think that I would let somebody impound my car? The boatyard is mine, oh, by the way, you two owe me a gate. I'll just take it off your cut." Carter said.
"Off our cut . . . yeah, I like that." Roman muttered.
"Good." Carter said.
"What's this job you got for us anyway?" he asked.
"Come with me." Carter replied.
We all followed him away from the house and over to where the cars were. I knew he was going to give them job information and that's where I politely bow out.
"The house has ears in it. I have something I want you to carry from North Beach to the Keys." he said.
"This is where I bid my goodbyes, gentleman, I'll see you later on." I said, nodding at Carter.
Brian wouldn't keep his eyes off of me by choice and I know it. Honestly speaking neither could I but I made the effort not to stare as much as he was. My heart was beating wildly in my chest like the feelings I have for him are trying to flourish again.
I'd rather take a bullet to the heart but I want to see him again. Call me perverse, selfish or just plain stupid but I do want to see him again. He's like a drug, my drug and I need a fix. Purely stupid, idiotic even, but that's what I feel.
Seeing him again just amplified the want and the lust that I feel for this man. Maybe I can keep it physical, I'm a woman and I have needs too. Needs that no other man can satisfy sadly enough, not for lack of trying though. I just don't feel attraction towards other men anymore and it's highly frustrating.
Cars, that's what I need right now. I need a mechanics fix and I know exactly where to get it. After changing into a burgundy tank-top and jean shorts with gladiator sandals that go up almost to my knees I hopped into my car and drove over to Tej's garage. I could still see the guys talking and when they heard my car everyone looked my way. I waved at them with a small, fake smile and gunned it out of the compound.
