Chapter 21

"Shut up! Shut the hell up!" I argued, my brain not wanting to hear the words that my heart wanted to hear so badly.

"I love you and I know that you love me too. I can see it in your eyes, in the way your body molds itself to mine when I hold you like this." he said, pulling me against his chest again.

"Don't do this." I whispered.

"Why not? I love you and I know that you love me. I don't care how long I have to wait for you Charlie, but I will wait."

"There's nothing to wait for."

"Yes, there is and you know it."

"I've gotta go."

"You just got here, don't leave."

"Yeah, I'm leaving."

"I'll see you tonight then."

"What? Why?"

"You going to Pearl at Midnight with Verone?"

"Maybe, why?"

"I'll be there waiting for you."

"Don't waste your time." I said, before walking away.

"Hey, are you okay?" Suki asked when I walked over to the car.

"Just peachy."

"What's wrong? How do you know Brian?"

"We were involved in LA, he uh . . . it was a complicated breakup. I didn't really expect to see him here."

"You still have feelings for him."

"I do but I can't, I don't want to."

"You can't tell your heart what to do, it just doesn't work that way."

"I know Suki, I wish it did." I replied, opening the car door and getting in.

"Hey, you coming with us to Pearl tonight?" Carter asked as soon as he saw me.

"Yeah, I'll be there. With proverbial bells on."

"Are you okay?" Monica asked.

"That's none of your business, sweetie." I replied, winking at her.

Now that I know her little secret I'm doubting telling Carter about it. As much as I would love to tell him the truth and watch her perfect facade fall away, I have no doubt that he will kill her and I don't want that on my conscious. She's not worth it.

"What's your problem with me?"

"You know my problem, I don't like you, among many other things. Don't test me Monica."

"Girls behave." Carter chuckled.

"Yeah, behave Monica. You wouldn't want to get hurt." I said with a smile.

"Are you threatening me?" she angrily asked.

"Not at all, just letting you know. What time at Pearl?" I asked Carter.

"Midnight."

"That works."

"Where are you going?" he asked me.

"To work on your car, it was making a weird noise yesterday and I want to make sure everything is in perfect condition."

"That's why I love you, sweetheart."

"Yeah, I'm a glorified car babysitter and I love it."

I knew that she would follow me at some point so I didn't really pay much attention to her as I walked away. Maybe half an hour had passed while I was in the garage before she showed up.
