chapter two

"Pete? Can we come in?" Steve asked as he cracked open the door. Peter nodded, all snuggled up in his bed. "Bud, there's something we need to talk to you about, okay?" His eyes widened. "Am I in trouble?" Tony chuckled. "Of course not, Pete. But this is very serious so you have to listen." He took a deep breath. He looked into Peter's sweet, innocent eyes. No matter how much he wanted to tell him, he couldn't do it. "We just wanted to say that we love you very much. And never forget that, okay?"

"I love you too." Tony grabbed Steve's arm, signaling him not to say anything. "Night, Pete. See you in the morning." Tony said, as he closed the door behind him. "Tony, what was that?! I thought you wanted to tell him?"

"I did, but I couldn't do it. Steve, he's only ten. He's just a kid, we can't pull him into this dark world yet. We need to let him be a kid just a little longer."

"Well what happens if he says something at school on Friday?"

"Just keep an eye on him. Please, baby, I need you to do this." Steve smiled and kissed his husband gently on the forehead. "Of course."

It was parents day and Tony was practically bitting his fingers off, he was so nervous. He sat on his bed, waiting for Steve and Peter to get back. Meanwhile, Steve and Peter were entering the school. "Pops, are you gonna be friends with the other dads?" Peter asked, tugging on Steve's shirt. "Sure, why not?" Peter was so excited his pops was there he could hardly contain himself.

When they walked into the classroom Peter ran up to his best friend Ned. "Peter! This is my mom and dad!" A man and woman smiled down at Peter. "This is my Pops," Peter said, giving Steve a big hug. "Where's your mom, Peter?" Ned asked. Peter looked up at Steve with a confused look on his face. "She, um, couldn't make it," said Steve, butting in. He tried his best to change the subject after that, but Peter couldn't get his mind off of that question. Where is my mom?
