Steve managed to get through the rest of the day without another slip out of Peter. They were on their way home when something caught Steve's eye in an alley way. There were two men, one getting pummeled by the other. He tried to hear what they were saying. "You queer faggot, you think you can sleep with a man and get away with it?" Steve felt his heart sink. On any other day he would've gone and helped the man, but he couldn't put Peter in danger like that. So, he picked him up in his arms and ran past the alley way.

Tony was relieved when Steve and Peter walked in the door. "How was it, boys?" Peter ran up to Tony, giving him a big hug. "Good, but I wish you were there!" Tony sighed, "Me too, kid. I'm sorry." Steve gave Tony the "it went well" nod. Tony finally felt like he could relax. "I have a question," Peter asked out of the blue.

"What is it bud?"

"Why don't I have a mom?" And there it was. The question Tony and Steve had been dreading to hear for the past ten years. Their faces went white, and they didn't know what to say. But deep down, they knew what they had to do. "Well you did, once. But something happened to her, and she couldn't take care of you anymore. So she gave you to us, cause she knew we would love you very much."

"So, you're not my real dads?" Peter looked like he was going to cry. "No, no, no Peter of course we are! Don't ever say that. We love you so much, Pete." Tony held the ten year old in his arms. "How come no one else has two dads?"

"Well, Pete, your pops and I love each other very much, but a lot of people don't like that. They think it's bad for two boys to love each other. But those people are evil, and can hurt you. That's why no one can know you have two dads, okay Pete?" This was a lot of information for the ten year old to process. He could believe what he was hearing. "Bud, are you okay?" Peter gently nodded his head.
