Serena's alarm went off at 6 o'clock on Monday morning, and I groaned, rolling over to wrap my arms around her. "What time is it?" I asked.
"Six." She murmured, reaching for her phone, making the screeching stop. She snuggled back against me, "You being here makes it tempting to call in sick."
I ran my hand up her leg, "Mmm... we could play hooky. Stay in bed all day." I kissed her neck, then her shoulder.
She rolled over and hooked her leg over mine. "As tempting as that sounds, I can't."
I nodded, "How would they ever handle the auditors without you?"
She laughed and kissed me softly. "Exactly."

I strolled into work early that morning and greeted my assistant with a smile. I had been in a great mood lately, and I knew it had everything to do with Serena.
I had been spending more and more time with her lately, and it seemed like the more time I spent with her, the more I craved her. Slowly, she had started letting her walls down. It had been a process for me, but we were getting through it, and I felt like I was making progress.
We went to dinner and a movie this weekend like a normal couple. She even let me take her to a nice place where I had to make reservations.
She had also started opening up about her life. I wasn't conceited enough to think I could make everything better for her, but damn I wanted to try. I did feel like I was making her happy for the most part, although I knew she worried about keeping us secret. I had learned her concerned face and every time she made it; I did my best to take her mind off it. She deserves happiness, but I'm a selfish prick, and I wasn't about to let her go even if it would make her life a lot simpler.
My assistant Jessica rang my office shortly before lunch. "Mr. Logan, I have Jack Wells on line one for you."
"Got it. Thank you."
I picked up the phone. Greeting Jack. "To what do I owe this pleasure?" He laughed. "Always so formal. I was calling to see if I could take you to dinner tomorrow night?"
That was suspicious. I was already a client, and besides frequent phone calls, the bank pretty much left me alone. That was exactly how I liked it. But considering everything with Serena, I was on high alert.
"My schedule is pretty tight. What's this about Jack?" He paused, further increasing my anxiety level. "Harry wants to join us. He has a proposition for you."
I sighed inwardly. They just needed something from me. "Let me check my schedule and get back with you later this afternoon, Jack."
"Sure thing. We'll make any time work. We could even make it lunch. I know you're a busy man." I shook my head even though he couldn't see me.
What a fucking suck up.
After hanging up, I thought about rather or not I should tell Serena about this. In all likelihood, they either want to introduce me to someone else or make some changes to my portfolio... But why wouldn't they include Serena in that? Maybe it was just the former. It didn't seem like they knew about Serena and me, so I figured I shouldn't bother her. I made a note to call Jack back this afternoon, deciding that I would meet with him tomorrow for dinner. With that, I got back to work, deciding to work through lunch and head out early to go to the gym.
After the gym, I went to the grocery store, deciding that since I couldn't have dinner with Serena tomorrow, I would make her something special tonight. We'd had dinner together almost every night, except when she insisted she was getting too lazy and she needed a longer gym session. I was always quick to remind her that I was doing a pretty good job of keeping her in shape, but she was never convinced, opting to go for a run anyway.
