The next morning, I woke up before Serena. I smiled to myself thinking that I must have really worn her out. I thought seriously about waking her to have her take care of the morning wood I was sporting but decided she probably needed her rest to deal with work after what I'd done.
I got up and slipped a shirt on then headed out to the kitchen to make some breakfast. Serena said she loved me last night. And I said it back. I had known for a while now how I felt, but I was afraid saying it would scare her off.
I had no idea what kind of mood Serena was going to be in this morning, but I was hoping breakfast would help. Turned out, I didn't have to wait long before Serena snuck into the kitchen and slipped onto a bar stool wearing one of my shirts.
She smiled softly and ran a finger over the granite countertop. When she spoke, she wasn't looking at me. "I'm sorry I kind of ambushed you last night." She finally looked up at me with scared eyes and I couldn't wait another moment to take her into my arms.
While I kissed her, I picked her up off the stool and sat her on the countertop. When we broke apart, I lifted her chin so she was looking at me. "Serena, I love you. That's why I did what I did. I've been wanting to say it for a while, but I honestly didn't know if you wanted to hear it. And don't ever apologize for telling me how you feel. I want to know everything about you. I want to know every single brilliant thought in your beautiful head because I love you and I'm here for you. Whatever you need."
I sealed my declaration with another kiss before releasing her and stepping back to give her a chance to respond.
She looked up at me through her dark lashes, a mischevious smile on her face. "Well, I guess you're forgiven then."
I laughed out loud, giving her a quick peck before going back to making breakfast. She offered to help, but I declined, happy to do something for her after causing her stress. I knew she said she loved what I did, but I also knew that some part of her hated what I did. Even if she was willing to forgive me, I still wanted to make it up to her.
"So, not to ruin your day, but are you ready for work?"
She rolled her eyes, "No."
She walked around the counter and wrapped her arms around me, "But if I get to come home to you afterward, I'll suffer through it."
"Is this your way of asking to move in?" I asked.
Her eyes opened wide and she tried to take a step back, "Oh my god. No! I wasn't... I mean... I didn't say that..."
"Because if you were asking, I would have to say that I love that idea."
She gasped, clearly surprised by the turn this conversation was taking.
I decided to cut her some slack. "Seriously, Serena. Think about it. I know it wasn't that long ago that you ended things and we tried just being friends. And I know you still have to figure things out about your job, but I love you and I'd love to go to sleep with you every night. And I'd even love to wake up with you every morning at whatever god awful time you choose."
She finally cracked a smile. "Can I think about it?" she asked.
"Of course. Now let's eat."

Author's Notes: So, I definitely didn't see this one coming. I rewrote this chapter a couple of times because I wasn't sure what I wanted it to be, and even though this ended was kind of out of the blue, I feel like it fits. What do you think about Reese asking Serena to move in? And in such a playful way?
