"These look cute" Mom said picking up the hoop earnings and pressing it up against her ears before checking it out in the mirror.

"But don't you think it'll be useless wearing them if I let my hair down?" I give her a quick glance before picking up the curling iron and doing my hair.

"You are only saying that because you don't want to wear them. Such a bore" She shoots me an unimpressed look and I stifle a laugh. Mother knows the best.

"Aww it's so cute that you are helping me dress-up just because you don't want to get back to work" I tease wiggling my brows at her. I choke back a yelp when I almost burn my face with the hot curling iron.

"What? Can't I just relive my teenage days through you without being teased about it? Is that too much to ask, daughter dearest?" She sniffs.

"Of course you can, mother dearest. Don't let my comments stop you" I rolled my eyes with a smile. I add a brush of mascara to my lashes before painting my lips with nude lipstick. I smile at my reflection happy with the choice of outfit I picked for the bonfire party at the local beach today.

A blue crop tank top paired with a white boyfriend cardigan and high waisted ripped shorts.

"Tell me I look good enough to eat" I turn towards her and pucker up my lips in an exaggerated pout. She nods with a laugh.

"What time will you be back? Even though we haven't set a curfew for you yet, I still want you back home at a decent time" She followed me down the stairs and leaned against the wall as I sat on my haunches and looked for my brown sandals in the small footwear compartment in the foyer just below the guitar shaped key stand.

"Cinderella will be back home before midnight" I let out a relived sigh when my sandals come in view and I quickly put them on.

"She better be" Mother dearest said firmly and I salute her with a promising grin. My phone chimes with a text and I glance at it to see it's a message from Eva letting me know she'll be here in 5.

"Hey, you okay?" Her hands stop wringing at my words and she looks up at me with an apprehensive expression on her face.

"Are you worried about Dad?" I ask knowing it is indeed about him. I can see that she is happy that he is finally coming back after 4 long months and I am too but she looks anxious about something.

"You know what? I don't really feel up for a party right now. Let's watch a movie or how about binge watching reruns of the Desperate Housewives instead? We can order pizza or Chinese if you want" She slowly shakes her head at me forcing a smile on her face.
