Emeline's mother was the kind of person that you thought about when people called parents too lenient. She had gotten pregnant with Emeline at a young age, Emeline's father never being present for her upbringing apart from child support and the occasional birthday card or gift, so Wren had raised Emeline all on her own.

Did a damn good job at it too, at least in Emeline's opinion.

Her short hair was a reddish brown color, and she had never quite left behind the punk style of the nineties when it came to her clothing.

She worked at the local hospital as a nurse, picking up as many shifts as she could, and she was respected by the rest of the town, even if they loved to spread gossip about the single mother. She was Emeline's hero, and there were no questions about that. If Jessica didn't exist then Wren Rivera would be Emeline's best friend in the whole world, and Emeline was okay with that.

Wren calmly looked at Emeline when she climbed into the car, cocking a brow and silently demanding an explanation for both calls the woman had received.

"Jessica's boyfriend broke up with her in front of everybody and practically declared his undying love for another girl. I wasn't even thinking." The words tumbled out of Emeline's mouth with no filter. She felt guilty, even though she knew her actions had been justified, at least in teenager world. " I know I probably shouldn't have punched him but Randy was acting like a total ass." She said, and Wren nodded.

Emeline cared a lot about what her mother thought of her.

"You were doing it for Jessica's honor. "Wren supplemented for her daughter, and Emeline slouched in her seat, causing Wren to glare at her. Emeline quickly sat up straight.

"People used to kill each other for that. I think breaking Randy's nose was justified." Emeline defended herself, and her mother chuckled slightly before she stopped herself.

"I don't know if I'd say that much. What was the other call about?"  Wren asked, immediately turning into concerned mother rather than cool mother.

 Emeline stayed silent.

Every time she collapsed people acted like the world was ending, and it annoyed her to no end. She could handle herself, she was fine. She didn't need to the nurse to call her mother, or to be sent home from school, or checked over by her mother's coworkers, or even fretted over. She was completely, absolutely fine.

 It wasn't even her fault.

Emeline's jaw set into a hard line as she continued to refuse to speak about the issue, and Wren sighed.

"You don't have to be so stubborn. It worries me that one day something will happen and there will be no one around and you'll just pretend it's fine when you wake up." Wren said, knowing that her daughter would never ask for help.
