"You did what?" Emeline asked incredulously, and Jessica hid behind her hands as they sat down at their shared lunch table, the other members of their friend group were barely able as Emeline was filled in on the entire Edward Cullen fiasco.
"I said I put up a sign at his locker and waited to ambush him." The shorter girl said. "It would have been cute if he said yes but instead it was like totally mortifying and he tried to let me down easily and no one was there to help me play off the situation because you were busy with his weird brother. In short, this is the end of Jessica Stanley."
"At least you put yourself out there?" Emeline said optimistically, trying to comfort her friend as she pat her back. In Jessica's mind this was the end times.
Erik was unable to hide his laughter any longer as Jesica finished her explanation though. "She put herself out there and he pushed her back like, twenty feet." The asian boy joked, laughing historically, Emeline shot him a glare.
"It isn't your fault Cullen is blind." Mike said darkly as he stabbed at his lunch with a plastic spork, mashing it into an unrecognizable pile of mush.
"Thanks, Mike."
Jessica was sullen throughout lunch, and nothing the group did or said was able to cheer her up, apart from Mike's comment, which had put a small smile on her face for a single second. Mike mirrored Jessica's cloudy mood, and the silence was kind of unbearable.
Emeline could've fallen to the ground and started thanking the lord when Jasper came to the table, effectively saving her from unending awkwardness.
"Could I borrow you?" The blond asked, resting his hand on Emeline's shoulder, the feeling of his cold hand chilling her through the fabric of her sweater. Emeline nodded enthusiastically, taking her hand off of Jessica's back, and Angela barely looked away from her book. The entire table was practically dead, as Jessica, Mike, and Emeline were generally the life of the group. Erik has even gone to sit with his other friends as his jokes continued to fail.
"Please do." Emeline said, grabbing Jasper's hand ignoring how cold it was, though it practically stung her to hold onto it. "What did you want to talk about?" The brunette asked, and Jasper chuckled awkwardly, looking down at their interlocked hands.
He was embarrassed.
Emeline hated how cute she found that.
"I was wondering if you'd want to come to my house to study later? We have that apush test Friday..." Jasper trailed off. He was deliberately not making eye contact with her, his honey blond hair shadowing his face.
The situation felt familiar to Emeline, but nowadays everything did. "I think that's a great idea." She couldn't stop a dopey smile from decorating her face, and she could see Jasper's lips twitch as well.
Not that she was watching his face. Or focusing on how nice it felt to hold his hand, the initial discomfort from the cold leaving completely.
"I'll message you the address then." Jasper said, dropping her hand. "See you in history Miss Emeline." Jasper said before turning off and going back to his table, and Emeline took a moment to process his strange wording before doing the same.
Emeline went through the rest of her day in a great mood, and Jasper picked up on it in history, teasing her about it slightly.
The world seemed to pick up on Emeline's mood as well, and the rain let up just as school was ending, freeing her to walk home instead of taking a ride from Mike.
Her mom was able to drive her over to Jasper's house after she dropped her stuff off at home, which put her in an even better mood.
Though she'd seen it before, Emeline was still taken aback by how large the house was, as she walked up to the door. Her good mood began to dissipate as pressure built up in her head, and she knocked on the door, Alice answering it almost immediately, dragging her inside before Emeline had the chance to even wave to her mother.
"We never get to have people over!" Alice squealed, hugging the taller brunette tightly as she closed the door, and the tips of her spiky hair tickled Emeline's nose. Jasper entered the living room from the kitchen, just then a bottle of water in his hand as he leaned up against the wall.
"Don't crush her Alice. I like this one." He said in a dry voice, and Alice loosened her hold on the girl. Jasper seemed to be a lot more comfortable in his own home, his usually tense posture being replaced by a grace that she'd never seen at school, the grimace he held around others disappeared all together, and Emeline could feel the aura of confidence he had radiating off of him. She hadn't even realized how uncomfortable he was in the presence of others until now, finally seeing him in his natural habitat.
"I didn't hurt you right?" Alice asked, looking over Emeline with her wide topaz eyes, and Emeline shook her head as Alice let go of her.
"Nope. You've got a hell of a grip though." Emeline half jokes, but her fingers absentmindedly went to touch her ribs which were throbbing at the pressure that had been put on them when the shorter girl hugged her, betraying her discomfort.
Jasper strode over to Emeline, crossing the room in three long strides. "Would you rather study in my room or the living room?" He asked, and Emeline's cheeks flooded with color as she thought about being in Jasper's room alone with him.
"The living room is chill." Emeline said, and Jasper took a sip of his water almost robotically as the two set up Jasper's history book on the coffee table, which Emeline hadn't even noticed Jasper grab.
As Emeline looked around the house absentmindedly the dull throbbing in her head became more intense, even more so when she looked at some of the pictures that decorated the walls, but again she shrugged it off.
About an hour into going over the notes together Jasper's brother and sister came home, laughing about something as they entered the door, but the beautiful blonde froze when she saw Emeline.
Jasper had told Emeline that Rosalie and Emmett were out on a date while Edward and Alice were upstairs in their rooms, and his parents were doing who knows what.
Rosalie was just staring at her, making her feel naked. It was an uncomfortable feeling.
"You didn't tell us you were having anybody over." Rosalie said in a strained voice, and Emeline's ears began to ring as she looked at the beautiful blonde and her companion, and Emmett offered Emeline a blinding smile.
Rosalie and Jasper began to bicker, but Emeline couldn't hear what they were saying as the ringing in her ears got louder and her stomach began to turn, but she understood the main point of the argument.
Jasper was supposed to warn the entire family before somebody came over.
Emeline felt Emmet's large hand touch her shoulder and she flinched from how cold his hands were, her vision starting to haze as the ringing in her ears became deafening. Her stomach was doing an entire gymnastics routine, and she vaguely realized the Emmett had been standing no where near her just a second ago.
Emeline's head felt like it weighed a hundred pounds as she tried to turn to even look at Emmett, but the effort sent her head spinning, and her body fell to the ground as her vision finally went black.
Then the images started to take over.
