Chapter 5: We Have Our Differences

Episode 5: Schooled

We were all chilling out at Mount Justice. Everyone was gathered around the holographic ski table. Aqualad was playing against K.F. I was the only one not around there. I was at the screen watching everything that was happening on the bridge in Metropolis. I saw Superman and S.B. talking before Superman flew away. I let out a sigh. I've been trying to get Superman to get some interest in S.B., but my pleading wasn't really going so well and just caused me miserable training. I didn't see why he had to make my training miserable. If it didn't stop my pestering the first time, it's not going to stop it ever. I was tired of all my non power training. I couldn't survive without them. Every time I tried using the gadgets, they'd only end badly for me. I could not memorize which gadget did what to save my life. I accidentally caught Robin and me in a net and we didn't exactly fit. We were stuck for hours until Uncle Bruce came and tied us down. It was the first time Robin forgot his utility belt too. It was just my luck. And before you start thinking I did it on purpose, let me tell you...no. As much as I loved how close we were, I was not comfortable and my whole body hurt from how tight the net was around us putting us in the most awkward position. But anyway just because I was tired of it, didn't mean I gave up. I just decided that in the meantime I was not limiting myself so much on my abilities. I mean now that I think about it why should I trust a robot? I mean it claimed I stole something when I didn't steal anything. I really didn't think that through. I turned the screen off and went to the kitchen to get something to drink. I came back with a Gatorade as I watched S.B. walk right through the holographic ski table. He didn't look so happy, but then again he was never happy.

"Hi Superboy, how was Metropolis?" Meg asked. Meg was my nickname for M'gann because it sounded better than M'g. S.B. ignored her and kept walking. I let out a sigh. I should probably talk to him...seeing as Superman won't...

"Are you ready for training everyone?" I heard Black Canary's voice said I turned in the direction. I saw Martian Manhunter and Black Canary walking over.

"Black Canary!" Meg said rushing over to them, "Uncle J'onn!" She gave him a hug. I smiled at him from where I stood. I haven't been training with him so much. But I understood, family should always come first. I looked back at S.B. who began to walk away again.

"Stick around" Black Canary said, "class is in session" the platform began to light up underneath her, "I consider it an honor to be your teacher, I'll throw a lot at you, everything I learned from my own mentors" she took off her jacket. I noticed the bandage around her arm. "uh and my own bruises"

"What happened?" Meg asked

"The job" Black Canary replied, "now, combat is about controlling conflict, putting the battle on your terms. You should always be acting, never reacting. I'll need a sparring partner"

"Oh! me!" I said excited. This was the first lesson we were getting from Black Canary. "I want to give it a go" I began to walk up when something or someone zoomed passed me leaving me spinning. When I balanced myself, I saw K.F. in front of her on the platform. I was so getting him back for this. I walked over and stood beside Robbie leaning an arm on his shoulder as I glared at K.F.

"Too slow!" he said to me before tossing his banana peel to the trash then turning to Black Canary, "after this, I'll show you my moves" Black Canary smirked and in less than a second, he was down on the ground. I tried to contain the smile, but I couldn't. I buried my face into Robin's shoulder to muffle my laughter.
