Chapter 39: Gem and Jewel

Episode 21: Image

"We need to go back" Liz said as she laid in my bed skimming through her photos. We were back at Wayne Manor. Batman wanted Liz and I to come back. I guess they had something important to do. We ran into Black Canary and Green Arrow going back which Liz completely freaked out about. I didn't know them. I haven't really brushed up on heroes of the League okay? I mean the only reason we knew who they were was because of the machine announcing them. They weren't even in costume. They seemed to know me and welcomed me back. Black Canary even hugged me. I hugged her back and smiled, but I felt really weird seeing as I couldn't remember her. Anyway we were currently in my room and we were both laying on my bed. I had my back leaned against the wall drinking my lemonade that Alfred brought us up.

"Why?" I asked. She must have really liked the Mountain.

"Because in none of these photos is Superboy smiling" She said sitting up and looking at me with a determined look, "and I have decided to make it my life's mission to make him smile." I threw a pillow at her laughing.

"You're an idiot" I replied.

"Hey, how do you think the team is spending Thanksgiving?" She asked

"I don't know" I shrugged, "I'm assuming with their families"

"That's boring..." She sighed

"Says the one that has family to spend it with" I retorted. She turned around and flopped on her belly turning to look at me with a sympathetic look before changing into a mischievous look and throwing a pillow back at me smacking me in the face. I hugged the pillow against me frowning at her. She started crawling over.

"Scoot over" She said and I moved closer to the wall so she could sit beside me.

"You are with family" She said, "you might not remember, but this is your family." I looked down at the bed. "Mr. Wayne took you in and he raised you. He taught you right from wrong, and he's protected you and looked after you. He's the closest thing you had to a dad. You should have seen how worried he was when you went into a coma. He's done way more than that family ever did or am I wrong?" I shook my head. Besides Nana and Manny, I was alone in that place. But Uncle Malcolm was being manipulated, so it really wasn't his fault. Maybe...he would have done all those things too. She grabbed her cup of lemonade from my nightstand.

"I don't remember any of that" I said.

"But you feel it" She replied, "or are you telling me you want to leave and go back?" I looked around the room. She was right. I felt comfortable here and safe which I haven't felt since I left Ms. Diana's. But even here, there was something about this place that was different from Ms. Diana's. Here...I actually felt safe the first time I came with Dick. The feeling is instant and at Ms. Diana's, it took a while before I felt this way.

"So Dick was like a brother?" I asked as she took a drink of her lemonade which apparently was the wrong thing to say at that moment because she spit it all out and it splashed all over barely missing me. Thank God! "Liz! Gross! My bed!" She started coughing.

"Your fault! Dick was not like a brother to you!" She said, "he was far from it! I told you! You were in love with him!"

"I don't feel that" I retorted, "now get off! I have to change the sheets and everything because of you!"
