Chapter 12: A New Light

"Lady Tsunade"... Shizune says as there was a letter for her. Tsunade was looking outside the window at her village while she turns for a second to grab the letter. She looks at the letter and decides to not pay attention to it by throwing it on the ground. Shizune looks at the letter "That ninja. He was not kidnapped by Akatsuki was he?" She asks as Tsunade responds "No, he is a criminal from the sand village. He is probably dead, but the mission was not to save him. It was to kill her." Shizune gasps as she lowers her head. "How will I explain this to Naruto?" Tsunade asks out loud as Shizune responds, "We cannot tell him... Lady Tsunade, the Yamanaka family is known for being able to access people's memories.. Inoichi Yamanaka has agreed to do so with Neji's, Ino's and everyone's memories about (y/n)". Tsunade nods as Shizune leaves the room. Tsunade tears up "No one should live with this burden beside me!". 

Meanwhile, Sakura and Naruto were walking toward the animal shelter as Naruto was carrying a bunch of paperwork in his hands while chatting with Sakura. 

" Hello!" said one of the care ladies at the animal shelter as Sakura and Naruto greet her warmly. The three of them start to talk about adoption as the caretaker goes through the paperwork and gives her okay.

"Everything seems in place. I will go and get them notarized and will be back with additional paperwork I need them to be signed by you. In the meantime, you can go ahead and look at the cats given for adoption." The caretaker points at the cat room where the cats were hanging out in their little "homes". Sakura and Naruto walk around looking at the cats, petting them as Naruto spots a black cat hidden under her pillow. Naruto goes nearby and extends his hand to the cat as the cat sniffs his hand eventually rubbing her head in his hands as Naruto picks her up gently. Sakura approaches Naruto holding the cat and the two of them decide this was the right cat. The caretaker comes back with paperwork as Naruto signs all the necessary papers and is set to adopt the cat.

Two days later Naruto wakes up to the cat meowing near his ear. He opens his eyes slowly as the cat moves aside. Naruto goes to feed the cat as it was 8 am, it was the day you and your team would return. Naruto eats breakfast while the cat plays with her little toys that Naruto had brought home from the shelter. "She will be so happy." Naruto thinks to himself and gets up to get ready. He grabs the cat with him and starts to walk toward the entrance of the village. 

Meanwhile, Lady Tsunade and Shizune are already at the entrance accompanied by Yamato Sensei. Naruto arrives finding Lady Tsunade, Shizune, and Yamato at the door, catching him by surprise. Yamato sensei notices Naruto walking with a cat in his hands while Tsunade and Shizune are looking over at some paperwork. 

"Naruto? What are you doing here?" Yamato asks in shock as Tsunade and Shizune are caught off guard and turn to look at Naruto. 

"(Y/N) comes back from her mission today and I got this little guy to surprise her. She has been wanting a cat for so long now, plus it is her first mission after the surgery so she will probably want to tell me about how it went right away." Naruto explains with a smile in his face as the cat plays with his fingers while he holds her. Tsunade and Shizune look at one another when Yamato spots Kakashi sensei in the distance. Naruto does the same as he eventually spots Ino and Neji holding you in his back. Naruto sighs "Typical (Y/N) falling asleep everywhere." he says as Kakashi and the rest make it to the gate. Naruto's expression suddenly changes as he barely senses your chackra while Neji was holding you. Naruto approaches you slightly as you had your eyes closed, but is immediately pushed away as Kakashi and Ino look sad. Lady Tsunade approaches your sleeping body and turns at Kakashi "How long?" she asks as Kakashi says "It has been 2 days." Naruto is a little confused as he snuggles the cat near him "Lady Tsunade? Kakashi sensei? What is going on?" he asks with a shaking voice and a concerned face. 

Shizune stands near Naruto as she says:- "Naruto, (Y/) is suffering from organ failure. She got sick in the battlefield causing for the mission to fail and having the captured ninja killed." Naruto's eyes widen up as he has tears in his eyes, snuggling the cat. He looks at you and then sifts his sight at the cat. "No" he whispers tearing up and getting angry. Naruto is hurt as the cat senses the sadness in him and meows softly while Naruto walks backward away letting go of the cat. Yamato grabs the cat with his wood style technique creating a wooden cage as Naruto rushes and grabs you away from Neji's arms. He drops to his knees holding you tight, "(Y/N) get up. You are fine, aren't you? This is just a prank... Well, stop it it's not funny no more." Naruto eventually breaks down and starts to cry like a little child holding your body tight as he senses your chakra getting weaker and weaker until he does not sense it anymore. "(Y/N) I could not name her... I waited for you to name her. She is the cutest and sweetest cat. Just like you..." Naruto sobs while Shizune, Ino, and Neji looked down at the ground mourning while Kakashi and Tsunade exchange eye contact. Tsunade knew what she had done was wrong and felt a lot of guilt, however, she justified the guilt with the "protecting Konoha" reasoning. Naruto keeps sobbing as Yamato places the cat in his shoulder. The cat meows and jumps in between your body and his chest. Naruto tearfully smiles "Luna. I will name her Luna. She will always remind me of you and how you loved to stare at the moon whenever you were happy or thinking or sad." The cat looks at Naruto as Shizune places her hand on his shoulder. "We have to grab her away now..." she says as Naruto nods and lays your body on the ground and grabs the cat. He looks at your dead body while the cat snuggled on his chest, loving the way Naruto kept petting her.
